[The role of hemocoagulation disorders in the pathogenesis and outcome of severe forms of acute pneumonia in infants and children].

As many as 249 children (age range 1 month--3 years) with acute pneumonia admitted to the department for intensive care were examined for the hemocoagulation system. Three types of changes were revealed: hypercoagulation associated with low fibrinolytic activity, coagulopathy of consumption, and hypocoagulation coupled with active fibrinolysis. Clinicomorphological correlations were done in 50 cases which eventuated in an unfavourable outcome.
