Novel gram-positive bacteria were identified from breast milk of healthy mothers in Hanoi, showing up to 2 genetic variations in their 16S rRNA sequences.
One strain, BME SL 6.1, closely resembles existing strains in the salivarius group, but genetic analysis suggests it is a new species.
These strains can produce specific enzymes and acids, leading to the proposal of classifying them as a new species within their genus, with BME SL 6.1 designated as the type strain.
