A total of 65 SNPs associated with resistance to tan spot and septoria nodorum blotch were identified in a panel of 180 cultivated emmer accessions through association mapping Tan spot and septoria nodorum blotch (SNB) are foliar diseases caused by the respective fungal pathogens Pyrenophora tritici-repentis and Parastagonospora nodorum that affect global wheat production. To find new sources of resistance, we evaluated a panel of 180 cultivated emmer wheat (Triticum turgidum ssp. dicoccum) accessions for reactions to four P.

Alterations in steroid hormone regulation have been implicated in the etiology and progression of autism spectrum disorders (ASD), with the enzyme cytochrome P450 family 11 subfamily A member 1 (CYP11A1)-a key catalyst in cholesterol side-chain cleavage, prominently expressed in the adrenal glands, ovaries, testes, and placenta-standing at the forefront of these investigations. The potential link between aberrations in placental Cyp11a1 expression and the resultant neurodevelopmental disorders, along with the mechanisms underpinning such associations, remains inadequately delineated. In this study, we employed a placental trophoblast-specific Cyp11a1 Hipp11 (H11) knock-in murine model to dissect the phenotypic manifestations within the placenta and progeny, thereby elucidating the underlying mechanistic pathways.

Article Synopsis
  • Ancient ivories from the Sanxingdui Ruins face a significant risk of microbial biodeterioration during temporary cold storage, threatening their long-term preservation.
  • Research utilized high-throughput sequencing and biochemical assays to identify and trace the key deteriorative microorganisms on the ivories, finding dominant fungal and bacterial genera that contribute to degradation.
  • Results indicated that most fungi and bacteria on the ivories originated from surrounding soils, impacting preservation strategies; however, disinfection with 75% ethanol effectively reduced the presence of spoilage species.

In computer-aided medical diagnosis, obtaining labeled medical image data is expensive, while there is a high demand for model interpretability. However, most deep learning models currently require a large amount of data and lack interpretability. To address these challenges, this paper proposes a novel data augmentation method for medical image segmentation.

Aiming at the current low degree of mechanization of pomegranate sprouting tiller pruning in China, all relying on manual pruning, this paper designs a PLC-based pomegranate sprouting tiller removal machine. This machine adopts the identification method of wireless map transmission, the sprouting tiller removal method of multi-cylinder cooperative operation, and the MCGS configuration to realize the interaction between the user and the system, which realizes the displacement and angle compensation of the end-effector under complex conditions to realize the all-around accurate removal of the pomegranate sprouting tiller. The performance test and finite element analysis showed that the device could remove up to 74.

Background: To evaluate the current prevalence of prediabetes in northeast China, and further determine the association between prediabetes alone or coexistent with hypertension and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality.

Methods: In the prospective study, 15,557 participants without diabetes among aged ≥40 years in northeast China, were followed for a median of 5.5 years.

The most widely practiced strategy for constructing the deep learning (DL) prediction model for drug resistance of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) involves the adoption of ready-made and state-of-the-art architectures usually proposed for non-biological problems. However, the ultimate goal is to construct a customized model for predicting the drug resistance of MTB and eventually for the biological phenotypes based on genotypes. Here, we constructed a DL training framework to standardize and modularize each step during the training process using the latest tensorflow 2 API.

Background And Aims: This study aimed to assess the potential of neck circumference (NC) and neck-to-height ratio (NHR) as predictors of future cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality in a general population from Northeastern China.

Methods: A multi-center prospective study was conducted in Northeastern China, involving 18, 796 participants. The associations between NC or NHR and the incidence of overall CVD mortality, stroke mortality, and coronary heart disease (CHD) mortality were examined using multivariate Cox regression models.

As natural antioxidants added to meat products, polyphenols can interact with proteins, and the acid-base environment influenced the extent of non-covalent and covalent interactions between them. This study compared the bio-functional characteristics and metabolic outcomes of the myofibrillar protein-chlorogenic acid (MP-CGA) complexes binding in different environments (pH 6.0 and 8.

In recent years, advancements in industries such as aerospace, military weaponry, automobiles, locomotives, and shipbuilding have led to a surge in the demand for bent and rolled components, along with increasingly stringent requirements for rolling precision. However, the traditional hydraulic cylinder feeding solution has hindered further enhancements in the accuracy of rolled profile contours. Additionally, owing to variations in profile specifications, material properties, and an assortment of random factors during the forming process, the applicability of existing forming formulas remains limited, rendering them suitable only for profile processing under specific circumstances.

Tripterygium wilfordii (TW), a well-known traditional Chinese medicine, was widely used in the treatment of autoimmune disorders and inflammatory diseases. However, the clinical use of TW was limited by severe toxicities, such as hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity. Our previous studies indicated that roasting was an effective approach for reducing TW-induced toxicity.

This study was conducted to increase the enzymatic activity of XS-4, which was isolated from the traditional fermented mash of Xianshi soy sauce. The mutation was induced by atmospheric and room-temperature plasma (ARTP), and a mutant strain, mut80, was obtained. mut80 exhibited significant increases in protease and amylase activity by 90.

Indole, a metabolite of the amino acid tryptophan, has been proven to act as a signal molecule in bacteria, acting in different aspects of biofilm formation. The oral biofilm is a type of biofilm that has consequences for human health. It is a complex, three-dimensional structure that develops on the surface of teeth via the attachment of primary microbial colonizers.

Ingestion of food toxins such as aflatoxin B (AFB) during pregnancy may impair fetal neurodevelopment. However, animal model results may not be accurate due to the species' differences, and testing on humans is ethically impermissible. Here, we developed an in vitro human maternal-fetal multicellular model composed of a human hepatic compartment, a bilayer placental barrier, and a human fetal central nervous system compartment using neural stem cells (NSCs) to investigate the effect of AFB on fetal-side NSCs.

Probiotics have gained tremendous attention as an alternative to antibiotics, while synbiotics may exhibit a greater growth promoting effect than their counterpart probiotics due to the prebiotics' promotion on the growth and reproduction of probiotics. The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of N-1 and its synbiotic with oligomeric isomaltose on the growth performance and meat quality of Hu sheep. Hu sheep (0-3 days old) were fed with water, probiotics of N-1, or synbiotics (N-1 and oligomeric isomaltose) daily in three pens for 60 days and regularly evaluated to measure growth performance and collect serum (five lambs per group).

Introduction: The gut-brain axis has been widely recognized in autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and probiotics are considered to potentially benefit the rescuing of autism-like behaviors. As a probiotic strain, () was utilized to investigate its effects on gut microbiota and autism-like behaviors in ASD mice constructed by maternal immune activation (MIA).

Methods: Adult offspring of MIA mice were given at the dosage of 2  ×  10  CFU/g for 4  weeks before subject to the behavior and gut microbiota evaluation.

Uranium biomineralization can slow uranium migration in the environment and thus prevent it from further contaminating the surroundings. Investigations into the uranium species, pH, inorganic phosphate (Pi) concentration, and microbial viability during biomineralization by microorganisms are crucial for understanding the mineralization mechanism. In this study, Bacillus thuringiensis X-27 was isolated from soil contaminated with uranium and was used to investigate the formation process of uranium biominerals induced by X-27.
