External electric and mechanical stimuli can induce shape deformation in excitable media because of its intrinsic flexible property. When the signals propagation in the media is described by a neural network, creation of heterogeneity or defect is considered as the effect of shape deformation due to accumulation or release of energy in the media. In this paper, a temperature-light sensitive neuron model is developed from a nonlinear circuit composed of a phototube and a thermistor, and the physical energy is kept in capacitive and inductive terms.

Vegetation dynamics is essential for characterizing surface biogeophysical parameters. Speeds of vegetation development and senescence are well documented, however, the effects of vegetation growth rates on surface parameters during different growth stages remains unclear. By using such methods as trend analyses and correlation analyses, this study examines the variations and interactive relationships of leaf area index (LAI) and surface parameters including Albedo, evapotranspiration (ET), and land surface temperature (LST), derived from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), during the intra-growing season (April-October, GS) on the Mongolian Plateau (MP).

One-layer membrane separates the gradient field in and out of the cell, while some two-layer membranes filled with excitable media/material are important to regulate the energy flow when ions are propagated and diffused. The intracellular and extracellular media can be effectively separated by the membrane. It is important to clarify and describe the biophysical function and then the capacitive property can be reproduced in equivalent neural circuit.

Drought is a crucial factor regulating vegetation growth on the Mongolian Plateau (MP). Previous studies of drought effects on the MP have mainly concentrated on drought characterization, while the response of vegetation to drought remains unclear. To close this knowledge gap, we examined the response of MP vegetation to drought in terms of gross primary production (GPP) and leaf area index (LAI) from 1982 to 2018.

As a major component of temperate steppes in the Eurasian continent, the Mongolian Plateau (MP) plays a pivotal role in the East Asian and global carbon cycles. This paper describes the use of five remote sensing indices derived from satellite data to characterize vegetation cover on MP, namely: gross primary production (GPP), net primary production (NPP), normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), leaf area index (LAI) and fractional vegetation cover (FVC). It is found that GPP, NPP, and NDVI exhibit increasing trends, whereas LAI and FVC present decreasing trends on the MP since 1982.

The COVID-19 pandemic gave rise to social and economic problems and pose a threat to most of enterprise. Faced with crisis and challenge, effective leaders and devoted employees are important factors for enterprises to overcome difficulties. We propose a moderated mediation model wherein narcissistic leader predicts subordinate's followership through leader self-interest behavior perceived by subordinates, with organizational identification of leader acting as the contextual condition.

Article Synopsis
  • Previous research has shown that plants react to nutrient availability, but how they respond to different levels of nutrient enrichment, particularly nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P), is not well understood.
  • A field experiment tested three levels of N (0, 10, and 40 g/m²/year) and P (0, 5, and 10 g/m²/year) to observe their effects on seed production in a dominant plant species in a temperate steppe.
  • Results indicated that N addition dramatically increased seed production, while P addition only enhanced seed output when nitrogen was also present, suggesting that nitrogen is the primary limiting nutrient for seed production in these ecosystems.

Under global change scenario, precipitation pattern has significantly changed, mainly in the aspects of annual precipitation amount, precipitation seasonal distribution and precipitation event characteristics (size of individual precipitation event, periods length between two precipitation events, and number of precipitation events in a year), which combined to affect various processes of terrestrial ecosystems, especially productivity. Grassland ecosystem is one of the most sensitive ecosystems to the changes of precipitation regime. Therefore, it is necessary to clarify the responses of productivity to altered precipitation regime in grasslands.
