People Living With Human Immunodeficiency Virus During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Experiences With Telemedicine.

Preserving routine primary care for people living with human immunodeficiency virus (PLWH) has been an important challenge during the COVID-19 pandemic. Telemedicine platforms have offered novel means through which care for these individuals may be maintained. Opt-In for Life is a unique mobile health application that contains telemedicine capabilities as well as other features designed specifically for the care of PLWH.

Combination therapies using an intratympanic polymer gel delivery system in the guinea pig animal model: A safety study.

Objectives: High dose antivirals have been shown to cause hearing loss when applied via the intratympanic route. The aim of this study was to determine if a combination therapy using dexamethasone (DXA) with either Cidofovir (CDV) or Ganciclovir (GCV), in solution or in PLGA-PEG-PLGA (PPP) hydrogel, is innocuous to the inner ear.

Methods: Cytomegalovirus (CMV)-free guinea pigs were separated into four principal study groups and treated via intratympanic injection (IT) of CDV/DXA solution, CDV/DXA Hydrogel, GCV/DXA solution and GCV/DXA hydrogel.

Identifying barriers and catalysts to fostering pro-environmental behavior: opportunities and challenges for community psychology.

In this paper, we report on an exploratory study of perceived barriers and catalysts to increasing pro-environmental behavior among people associated with the environmental movement. Perceived barriers include time, money, low efficacy and hopelessness. Catalysts focus on changing social norms, especially through education and institutional support.

Effectiveness of lifesaving skills training and improving institutional emergency obstetric care readiness in Lam Dong, Vietnam.

Essential obstetric care is promoted as the prime strategy to save women's lives in developing countries. We measured the effect of improving lifesaving skills (LSS) capacity in Vietnam, a country in which most women deliver in health facilities. A quasi-experimental study was implemented to assess the impact of LSS training and readiness (availability of essential obstetric equipment, supplies, and medication) on the diagnosis of life-threatening obstetric conditions and appropriate management of labor and birth.

The association of eating disorders and substance abuse has increasingly been noted among chemically dependent women. Without diagnosis and focused interventions around the disordered eating, female substance abusers are vulnerable to chemical relapse and continued out of control eating. This paper describes an eating disorder treatment program for drug-dependent females during the inpatient phase of chemical dependency treatment.
