Mycobacterium fortuitum is a rapidly growing nontuberculous mycobacterium mainly associated with skin, soft tissue and surgical site infections. We report an unusual outbreak of 6 cases of surgical site infection following spinal surgery. Patients received combined intravenous antibiotics, including amikacin, followed by an extended period of oral therapy with favorable clinical outcomes.

The cornea, transparent outmost layer of the eye, is prone to environmental aggressions, such as UV light, and therefore dependent on adequate mitochondrial function. While several reports have linked corneal defects to mitochondrial dysfunction, the impact of OPA1 mutation, known to induce such dysfunction, has never been studied in this context.

After their return home, they often have trouble incorporating the guidelines they have learned into their daily context. ECHOMANTRA intervention program aims to facilitate this transition by offering psychological strategies that involve both patients and their families and carers.

Eating disorders have serious physical, mental and social consequences that can affect the quality of life of the sufferer. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between the severity of ED-related psychopathology and clinical impairment in adolescents with anorexia nervosa (AN) as well as their perception of health-related quality of life. Eighty-six Spanish young women with AN completed a set of questionnaires assessing eating disorder pathology, clinical impairment, and quality of life.

Precision medicine could improve their surgical repair, currently based on polymeric materials. Nonetheless, biomaterial-triggered interventions need first a better understanding of the cell-material interfaces that truly consider the patients' biology.

This trend is reflected in the Journal of Chemical Information and Modeling (JCIM), where there has been a gradual increase in the number of papers that embrace this diversity. In this viewpoint, we analyze the evolution of the profile of papers published in JCIM from 1996 to 2022 addressing three diversity criteria, namely interdisciplinarity, geographic and gender distributions, and their impact on citation patterns.

Methods: We conducted an observational study between 20 May and 31 July 2022, on patients with MP at a reference tertiary center in Madrid, Spain.
Background: Immune responses to vaccines against severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)-coronavirus (CoV)-2 are variable. In the absence of disease, youngsters are expected to better react to vaccines than adults. Nevertheless, chronic immunosuppression in transplant recipients may impair their capability to generate protection.

Since this process occurs under a wide variety of experimental conditions, an improved atomistic understanding of the stability and phase transitions of these systems will be key to the development of successful technological applications. In this work, we proposed a theoretical framework to explore the potential energy surface and configuration space of nanoclusters to map the most important morphologies presented by those systems and the phase transitions between them.

With the availability of H. brasiliensis genomic data, several linkage maps with associated quantitative trait loci have been constructed and suggested as a tool for marker-assisted selection.

To determine the role of SPACR in the pathological mechanisms leading to RP and VMD, we generated a knockout mouse model lacking , the mouse ortholog.

However, their properties, such as the electrochemical stability window (ESW), ionic conductivity, and diffusivity, are influenced both by the chemical structures of cations and anions and by their combinations. Most studies in the literature focus on the understanding of common ionic liquids, and little effort has been made to find ways to improve our atomistic understanding of those systems.

At its core lies molecular representation, an essential key to improve learning about structure-property relationships. Recently, contrastive frameworks have been showing impressive results for representation learning in diverse domains.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFSome of the most common applications of machine learning (ML) algorithms dealing with small molecules usually fall within two distinct domains, namely, the prediction of molecular properties and the design of novel molecules with some desirable property. Here we unite these applications under a single molecular representation and ML algorithm by modifying the grammar variational autoencoder (GVAE) model with the incorporation of property information into its training procedure, thus creating a supervised GVAE (SGVAE). Results indicate that the biased latent space generated by this approach can successfully be used to predict the molecular properties of the input molecules, produce novel and unique molecules with some desired property and also estimate the properties of random sampled molecules.

The ECHOMANTRA programme was developed to optimize outcomes during and following inpatient or day-patient treatment. ECHOMANTRA is based on interventions for carers (Experienced Carers Helping Others, ECHO) and patients (Maudsley Model of Anorexia Nervosa Treatment for Adults, MANTRA) and is developed from the cognitive interpersonal model of anorexia (Schmidt and Treasure, 2006; Treasure and Schmidt, 2013).

Background: A systematic review can be defined as a summary of the evidence found in the literature via a systematic search in the available scientific databases. One of the steps involved is article selection, which is typically a laborious task. Machine learning and artificial intelligence can be important tools in automating this step, thus aiding researchers.

Materials And Methods: A multicenter, randomized clinical trial including patients undergoing abdominal surgical procedures through a midline laparotomy incision was designed. In the group of mesh (n = 167) the incision was closed using a continuous polydioxanone suture (PDS) plus a bioabsorbable mesh.
Fact-checking verifies a multitude of claims and remains a promising solution to fight fake news. The spread of rumors, hoaxes, and conspiracy theories online is evident in times of crisis, when fake news ramped up across platforms, increasing fear and confusion among the population as seen in the COVID-19 pandemic. This article explores fact-checking initiatives in Latin America, using an original Markov-based computational method to cluster topics on tweets and identify their diffusion between different datasets.

In this work, we employed density functional theory calculations to address this problem using CO adsorption on 13-atom transition-metal clusters, TM, namely, CO/TM, where TM = Ru, Rh, Pd, and Ag, and = 1-6. Unexpectedly, changes in the relative stability take place for all systems at a lower coverage, namely, at = 3 (Ru), 4 (Rh, Ag), and 2 (Pd).
