Rumination is a key feature of depression and contributes to its onset, maintenance, and recurrence. Researchers have proposed that biases in the attentional processing of emotional information may underlie rumination, and particularly, the brooding component. This investigation evaluated associations between attentional biases for emotional images and rumination, including both brooding and reflection, in currently and never depressed participants.

Case report: Partial regression of metastatic squamous cell carcinoma with altered azathioprine dosage after long-term use in renal transplant patient.

Introduction: We report the partial regression of metastatic squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) after reduction of long-term azathioprine therapy while awaiting surgery. The patient was a 69-year-old man with a history of kidney transplantation. Moderately differentiated SCC arising in the anterior neck was initially diagnosed, followed later by poorly differentiated SCC metastases to cervical lymph nodes.

Association of Gender and Personal Choices with Salaries of New Emergency Medicine Graduates.

Objective: The medical literature has demonstrated disparities and variability in physician salaries and, specifically, emergency physician (EP) salaries. We sought to investigate individual physician characteristics, including sex and educational background, together with individual preferences of graduating EPs, and their association with the salary of their first job.

Methods: The American College of Emergency Physicians and the George Washington University Mullan Institute surveyed 2019 graduating EPs.

Background: Substance use disorders (SUDs) are pressing global public health problems. Executive functions (EFs) are prominently featured in mechanistic models of addiction. However, there remain significant gaps in our understanding of EFs in SUDs, including the dimensional relationships of EFs to underlying neural circuits, molecular biomarkers, disorder heterogeneity, and functional ability.

Recent works have suggested that the ordering kinetics in these materials occur over millisecond or longer timescales, which is unusually slow for magnetic dynamics.

The influence of attachment style on support and feedback seeking and depression severity among mothers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Objectives: The ways that people seek support during times of stress influence their mental health outcomes, including depression. Insecure attachment is a risk factor for depression and may also interfere with adaptive support and feedback-seeking behaviour during stress. The purpose of the present study was to test theorized associations between insecure attachment, support and feedback seeking, and changes in depression symptoms over 1 year, in a sample of mothers of school-age children in the context of stress elicited by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Heteroepitaxial metal-oxide vertically aligned nanocomposites (VAN) have piqued significant interest due to their remarkable vertical interfacial coupling effects, strong structural and property anisotropy, and potential applications in magnetoelectrics, photocatalysts, and optical metamaterials. VANs present a unique pillar-in-matrix structure with uniform but rather random pillar distributions. Achieving a well-controlled pillar growth remains a major challenge in this field.

Negative affective priming: Reliability and associations with depression symptoms in three samples.

The negative affective priming (NAP) task is a behavioral measure of inhibition of emotional stimuli. Previous studies using the NAP task have found that individuals with depression show reduced inhibition of negative stimuli, suggesting that inhibition biases may play a role in the etiology and maintenance of depression. However, the psychometric properties of the NAP task have not been evaluated or reported.

Protocol for investigating tertiary lymphoid structures in human and murine fixed tissue sections using Opal™-TSA multiplex immunohistochemistry.

Tertiary lymphoid structures (TLSs) are ectopic lymphoid aggregates that can develop within or adjacent to tumors, but protocols that can accurately identify and characterize TLSs are lacking. Here, we present a protocol for the in situ interrogation and characterization of TLSs in human and murine tissue sections using Opal™-tyramide signal amplification multiplex immunohistochemistry. This protocol enables simultaneous detection of up to 7 markers (6 antigens and a DAPI counterstain).

KIBRA regulates activity-induced AMPA receptor expression and synaptic plasticity in an age-dependent manner.

A growing body of human literature implicates KIBRA in memory and neurodevelopmental disorders. Memory and the cellular substrates supporting adaptive cognition change across development. Using an inducible KIBRA knockout mouse, we demonstrate that adult-onset deletion of KIBRA in forebrain neurons impairs long-term spatial memory and long-term potentiation (LTP).

Gambling Disorder and Stigma: Opportunities for Treatment and Prevention.

Purpose Of Review: Gambling disorder is among the most stigmatized mental health problems. More research is needed to understand the mechanisms that underlie this stigma and the effects of stigma-reduction interventions. This paper reviews extant literature on the stigma of gambling disorder and highlights evidence from this research and the broader mental illness stigma literature to help advance research on the prevention and reduction of gambling-related stigma.

Whom Do Incentive Program Physicians Serve? New Measures for Assessing Program Reach.

One approach to ameliorating health workforce maldistribution is incentivizing health professionals, including physicians, to locate in underserved areas. However, eligibility for programs typically relies on large geographic areas whereas it is subpopulations within underserved areas who are typically at risk. New measures introduced in this article capture data on the patients actually served by incentive program physicians.

Previous research has found that depression is characterised by biased processing of emotional information. Although most studies have examined cognitive biases in isolation, simultaneous examination of multiple biases is required to understand how they may interact and influence one another to produce depression vulnerability. The present study examined the relationship between symptoms of depersonalization and facets of dispositional mindfulness in a general population sample.

Methods: A total of 296 adult participants (139 male, 155 female, 2 other) were recruited online via Qualtrics and completed the Cambridge Depersonalisation Scale; Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale; and Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire.

Incentive Programs for Physicians to Practice in Underserved Areas: A Nationwide Snapshot.

Access to health care is limited in part by maldistribution of physicians. Combination immunotherapy with nivolumab and ipilimumab in patients with rare gynecological malignancies: results of the CA209-538 clinical trial.

Background: Patients with rare cancers represent 55% of all gynecological malignancies and have poor survival outcomes due to limited treatment options. Combination immunotherapy with the anti-programmed cell death protein 1 (anti-PD-1) antibody nivolumab and the anti-cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated protein 4 (anti-CTLA-4) antibody ipilimumab has demonstrated significant clinical efficacy across a range of common malignancies, justifying evaluation of this combination in rare gynecological cancers.

Identification of Tumor Antigens in Ovarian Cancers Using Local and Circulating Tumor-Specific Antibodies.

Ovarian cancers include several disease subtypes and patients often present with advanced metastatic disease and a poor prognosis. New biomarkers for early diagnosis and targeted therapy are, therefore, urgently required.
