Isoetes candelariensis is a new species of Isoetaceae from Misiones, Argentina. This species is ephemeral, and grows on basaltic bedrock outcrop pools, in Urutau Reserve from Candelaria Department. This taxon differs from other aquatic Isoetes in this region by the unique combination of characters of its leaves, ligule, labium and megaspore ornamentation.

Exercise can induce a pro-inflammatory response in aged subjects with metabolic disorders and nitrate supplementation has shown anti-inflammatory effects. We evaluated the influence of dietary nitrate on the response of the antioxidant and mitochondrial dynamics genes to acute exercise in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), as well as the antioxidant and the inflammatory response of PBMCs against immune stimulation. Metabolic syndrome patients participated in a crossover study in which they consumed a beverage containing 16 mM sodium nitrate or a placebo with the same composition without nitrate before performing a submaximal test at 60%-70% of their maximal heart rate for 30 min.

The morphology and structure of megaspores assigned to Lagenoisporites magnus from the Toregua Formation, Retama Group, mid-upper Tournaisian of Bolivia were studied. The analysis was performed with light, fluorescence and scanning electron microscopy. Megaspores were laterally compressed and presented a spherical body with a proximal gula, of the hologula type.

This study aimed to assess the effects of cyclin-dependent kinase (CDK) inhibition on factors involved in the control of meiosis in bovine oocytes: maturation promoting factor (MPF) (p34(cdc2) and cyclin B1) and mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK). Oocytes were maintained at germinal vesicle (GV) stage in vitro with 10 μM of the CDK inhibitor butyrolactone I (BLI) for 24 h (inhibited). After this period, some of the oocytes were transferred to in vitro maturation (IVM) culture for 24 h (inhibited and matured).

The effects of prematuration (PM) of bovine oocytes with butyrolactone I (BLI) for 24h on meiosis progression, cell structures and embryo development were assessed. Germinal vesicle (GV) rates decreased (97.4-65.

Cyclin dependent kinase inhibitors (CDKIs) may be used for pre-maturation culture, but can accelerate nuclear maturation. The aim of the present research was to compare the effect of butyrolactone I (BLI) alone or combined with roscovitine (ROS) at lesser than typically used concentrations on nuclear maturation kinetics and embryo development. To assess maturation kinetics (Experiment 1), oocytes were cultured in 100 microM BLI (B) or 6.
