The COVID-19 outbreak caused saturations of hospitals, highlighting the importance of early patient triage to optimize resource prioritization. Herein, our objective was to test if high definition metabolomics, combined with ML, can improve prognostication and triage performance over standard clinical parameters using COVID infection as an example. Using high resolution mass spectrometry, we obtained metabolomics profiles of patients and combined them with clinical parameters to design machine learning (ML) algorithms predicting severity (herein determined as the need for mechanical ventilation during patient care).

Diabetes mellitus, characterized by dysregulated glucose metabolism, oxidative stress, and the formation of advanced glycation end products, poses a significant global health burden. In this study, we explored the potential of sorghum () seeds, known for their abundant phytochemical composition, as a natural remedy for diabetes and its associated damage. High-performance liquid chromatography/high-resolution mass spectrometry analysis revealed a remarkable phenolic richness in sorghum grains, including gallic acid, quercetin, and the predominant procyanidin B-1, with ecotype-specific variations in flavonoid distribution.

Here, we study a sequence Diels-Alder/aromatization reaction between biobased furanic derivatives and alkynes, paving the way to renewable phenols. Guided by DFT calculations, we revealed that, in the case of dimethylfuran, the methyl group can migrate during the aromatization step, making this substrate also eligible to access renewable phenols. This reaction has been then successfully transposed to furfural and furfuryl alcohol, allowing molecular diversity and complexity to be created on phenol ring starting from two cheap biobased furanic derivatives available on large scale.

Background: Although metabolomics continues to expand in many domains of research, methodological issues such as sample type, extraction and analytical protocols have not been standardized, impeding proper comparison between studies and future research.

Methods: In the present study, five solvent-based and solid-phase extraction methods were investigated in both plasma and serum. All these extracts were analyzed using four liquid chromatography coupled with high resolution mass spectrometry (LC-MS) protocols, either in reversed or normal-phase and with both types of ionization.

Aminoacyl- and peptidyl-tRNA are specific biomolecules involved in many biological processes, from ribosomal protein synthesis to the synthesis of peptidoglycan precursors. Here, we report a post-synthetic approach based on traceless Staudinger ligation for the synthesis of a stable amide bond to access aminoacyl- or peptidyl-di-nucleotide. A series of amino-acid and peptide ester phenyl phosphines were synthetized, and their reactivity was studied on a 2'-N di-nucleotide.

Rotaxanes and molecular knots exhibit particular properties resulting from the presence of a mechanical bond within their structure that maintains the molecular components interlocked in a permanent manner. On the other hand, the disassembly of the interlocked architecture through the breakdown of the mechanical bond can activate properties which are masked in the parent compound. Herein, we present the development of stimuli-responsive Cu -complexed [2]catenanes as OFF/ON catalysts for the copper-catalyzed alkyne-azide cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction.

Enhancing the selectivity of anticancer drugs currently used in the clinic is of great interest in order to propose more efficient chemotherapies with fewer side effects for patients. In this context, we developed a β-cyclodextrin trimer that binds to circulating albumin to form the corresponding bioconjugate in the bloodstream. This latter can then entrap doxorubicin following its i.

Molecular identification is a fundamental issue in astrobiology to investigate the routes of emergence of life on our planet involving in particular a potential seeding of extraterrestrial organic matter on the primitive Earth. However, this project encompasses major difficulties due to the low concentration of molecules present in bodies of the Solar System. This work proposes an integrative analytical workflow, no longer based on GC-MS instruments, to enhance comprehensive analysis of organic markers in these objects.

With questions emerging on the presence and risks associated with metabolites and transformation products (TPs) of organic contaminants in the aquatic environment, progress has been made in terms of monitoring and regulation of pesticide metabolites. However, less interest is shown for pharmaceutical residues, although their pseudo-persistence and adverse effects on non-target organisms are proven. This study provides original knowledge about the contamination of ten sites located along three French rivers (water, sediments, biofilms, clams) by pharmaceutical metabolites and TPs, as well as a preliminary environmental risk assessment.

Staudinger ligation is an attractive bio-orthogonal reaction that has been widely used to tag proteins, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids. Here, we explore the traceless variant of the Staudinger ligation for 3'-end modification of oligoribonucleotides. An azido-containing dinucleotide was used to study the ligation.
