In recent years, synthetic cannabinoids (SCs) have become a major public health issue. For this reason, there is a need for innovative analytical methods that allow its monitoring in biological matrices. In this work, we propose a novel methodology to screen eight SCs (AM-694, cumyl-5F-PINACA, MAM-2201, 5F-UR-144, JWH-018, JWH-122, UR-144 and APINACA) in oral fluids.

Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) integration into ClinCheck, enabling bone and root visualisation, allows a more accurate follow-up of the teeth position. This study aims to compare torque measurements of the upper central incisors with and without CBCT and relate them to the upper incisor inclination and facial biotype.

We aimed to investigate the association between iPTH, serum phosphorus levels and dietary intake. This was a cross-sectional, multicenter, observational study with 561 patients on hemodialysis treatment.

White blood cells are non-dominant in blood and in spectral information, suffering significant interferences from dominant constituents such as red blood cells, hemoglobin and billirubin. White blood cells of a bigger size can account for 0.

Despite being an integral part of dermatologic surgery, nail surgery is infrequently performed in daily practice. Indeed, it is frequently considered difficult, time-consuming, and the results take a long time to be observed. Nonetheless, nail pathology is a frequent cause of dermatology consultation, so dermatologists should be familiar with its diagnosis and therapeutic approach, which often involves surgical procedures.

TCPC is a very stable, highly emissive molecule that has been easily obtained from meso-tetrakis(4-methoxycarbonylphenyl) porphyrin (TCPP) through a 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition approach.

Background: As populations age and chronic diseases increase, self-care concerns rise. Individuals who seek healthcare, regardless of context, need prompt access to accurate health information.
The circular economy plays an important role in the preparation and recycling of polymers. Research groups in different fields, such as materials science, pharmaceutical and engineering, have focused on building sustainable polymers to minimize the release of toxic products. Recent studies focused on the circular economy have suggested developing new polymeric materials based on renewable and sustainable sources, such as using biomass waste to obtain raw materials to prepare new functional bio-additives.

Here, we present a new platform for the efficient sensing of Cu and Li cations. For this purpose, two novel photoactive diketopyrrolopyrrole-rhodamine conjugates were synthesized through the condensation of a diketopyrrolopyrrole dicarbaldehyde with rhodamine B hydrazide.

The cutaneous manifestations associated with this period are usually divided into physiological changes related with pregnancy, pre-existing dermatoses modified by pregnancy, and pregnancy-specific dermatoses, with the latter being potentially associated with significant fetal morbidity. The diagnosis of dermatoses of pregnancy can be challenging due to the variability in its clinical presentation; therefore, a complete and detailed clinical history and a thorough physical examination are essential.

Objectives: We aimed to analyse the main reasons for dermatological inpatient consultation in a tertiary centre.
Materials & Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed based on clinical registries that included inpatients observed in emergency dermatology consultation between January 1st 2016 to December 31st 2020 at the Hospital de Santa Maria, a tertiary teaching hospital in Lisbon, Portugal.
Cardiovascular diseases are one of the most important global medical challenges because of their high rates of morbidity and mortality. In this narrative review, the authors address the most important dermatologic signs that can be present in patients with cardiovascular disease. The early recognition of these underestimated entities is very important as it may lead to an early diagnosis and timely treatment, thus lessening the effects of long-term disease and possibly improving the prognosis.

This quasi-experimental study aimed to examine the impact on empathy, knowledge, and attitudes towards people with schizophrenia of a VR simulation that reproduces the experience of psychotic symptoms while performing a cognitive task compared with watching a 2D video and, thus, how these experiences could reduce stigma towards people diagnosed with schizophrenia. The sample comprised of 102 higher education health students, distributed by the experimental and control groups.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFunctionalization of xanthene fluorophores with specific receptor units is an important topic of research aiming for the development of new analytical tools for biological sciences, clinical diagnosis, food and environmental monitoring. Herein, we report a new dihydrorosamine containing two active amino groups, which was functionalized with 3-benzyloxy-1-(3'-carboxypropyl)-2-methyl-4-pyridinone through an amide coupling strategy. Benzylated mono- and di-functionalized dihydrorosamine derivatives (H in position 9 of the xanthene) were obtained, but with modest reaction yields, requiring long and laborious purification procedures.

Introduction: Muscle paresis is a condition that significantly impacts quality of life. Nurses have a crucial role in managing this condition, particularly paresis of voluntary movement muscles.
This study aims to identify the prevalence of workaholism and work-family interaction, their relationship and their variation according sociodemographic and occupational characteristics among nurses. A quantitative, descriptive, correlational and transversal study was conducted with a sample of 839 Portuguese nurses. Regarding workaholism, 27% of workaholic nurses were identified, scoring a higher mean value for excessive work.
