One-step synthesis of substituted dihydro- and tetrahydroisoquinolines by FeCl3.6H2O catalyzed intramolecular Friedel-Crafts reaction of benzylamino-substituted propargylic alcohols.

A mild, versatile, and efficient method for the one-step synthesis of substituted dihydro- and tetrahydroisoquinolines has been developed by the FeCl3.6H2O catalyzed intramolecular allenylation/cyclization reaction of benzylamino-substituted propargylic alcohols, representing the first example of the intramolecular Friedel-Crafts reaction of propargylic alcohols.

SmCl3-catalyzed C-acylation of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and malononitrile.

A recyclable, convenient, and efficient catalytic system for C-acylation of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and malononitrile with acid chlorides has been developed, giving moderate to excellent yields under mild conditions. This is the first catalytic example of such reactions. In addition, by applying this protocol as the key step, 3,5-disubstituted-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylate can easily be synthesized in high yields in a one-pot procedure.

Improving continuity of care in a public addiction treatment system with clinical case management.

Philadelphia attempted to expand the access to and continuity of addiction treatment by focusing on the 15% of patients who received multiple, detoxification-only (MDO) treatments each year. Clinical Case Managers at five detoxification centers encouraged MDO patients to continue care following detoxification in methadone, residential, or outpatient rehabilitation, and sustain improvements, and they recommended opening detoxification access for additional patients as well. System administrative information was available for one year prior and three years during the intervention.

Client's Perceived Need for Treatment and Its Impact on Outcome.

Objectives. Based on the concept of "stage of change," this study examines the relationship between patients' motivation for substance abuse treatment and their posttreatment improvements in the areas measured by the Addiction Severity Index (ASI; alcohol, drug, medical, psychiatric). We attempt to answer the following questions: Do clients' perceptions of "need for drug, alcohol, psychiatric, and medical treatment" at admission predict their improvements on these problems at 6-month follow-up? How do clients' perceived needs contribute to their use of treatment and their reported change? Methods.
