- Geopolymer concretes are being adopted slowly in the industry due to concerns about their long-term durability, particularly regarding the corrosion of reinforcement from chloride exposure.
- The corrosion process in concrete has two stages: the initiation phase (time for chlorides to reach reinforcement) and the propagation phase (active corrosion), but current tests mostly focus only on the initiation phase.
- A new performance-based test is proposed that evaluates both phases of corrosion in alkali-activated concretes without using electrical potential and can be completed fairly quickly.*
