Article Synopsis
  • A mobile artificial lumbar complex (MALC) was developed for reconstructing goat spines after subtotal lumbar resection and assessed for stability and motor function post-surgery.
  • The study involved 18 male boer goats divided into three groups: control, fusion, and non-fusion, with varying surgical interventions and the use of 3D printed MALC.
  • Results indicated successful positioning of the MALC without complications and no significant differences in range of motion for the lumbar intervertebral spaces after six months.

Dopamine D3 receptor (D3R) on immune cells is involved in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Mast cells (MCs) are currently identified as important effector cells in synovial inflammation of RA, but little is known about the role of D3R on synovial MCs in the pathogenesis of RA. Several inflammatory cells in the synovium induce reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation which are involved in the progression of RA.

In order to provide effective options for minimally invasive treatment of spinal metastases, the present study retrospectively evaluated the efficacy and safety of image-guided minimally invasive percutaneous treatment of spinal metastases. Image-guided percutaneous vertebral body enhancement, radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and tumor debulking combined with other methods to strengthen the vertebrae were applied dependent on the indications. Percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) was used when vertebral body destruction was simple.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to analyze how anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion (ACCF) and anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) affect the range of motion (ROM) and stress on nearby spinal structures using finite element analysis.
  • A 3D finite element model of lower cervical vertebrae was created and validated against existing data before comparing the ROM and stress in fusion models to those of intact vertebrae.
  • Results showed that both surgeries significantly reduced overall ROM in the cervical vertebrae while increasing ROM and stress in the adjacent segments, indicating a shift from the original physiological traits of healthy cervical vertebrae.

Objective: To retrospectively analyze the surgical methods and its clinical effects and explore a clinical classification and treatment strategy for atlantoaxial dislocation(AAD).

Methods: The clinical data of 89 patients with atlantoaxial dislocation were analyzed from September 2005 to September 2013. There were 49 males and 40 females, aged from 13 to 67 years with an average of 48.

Objective: To explore the method for obtaining olfactory ensheathing cells from human fetal olfactory mucosa by cell culture for selective adhesion in the presence of neurotrophin-3 (NT3) and low-concentration serum.

Methods: The olfactory ensheathing cells were cultured alternatively in DMEM/F12 culture medium containing 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS) and the medium containing NT3 and 2.5% FBS every 72 h.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to find an effective method for obtaining and purifying olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs) from human fetuses using various attachment rates and intermittent NT3 application.
  • Human fetal OECs exhibited positive results in P75 immunocytochemistry, showing high purity rates of approximately 95% after 9 days and 83% after 12 days of culture.
  • The combined technique showed promise for simple and effective culture and purification of OECs, which could be beneficial for future research and applications.
