Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV), the causative agent of bovine viral diarrhea/mucosal disease (BVD/MD), is an important pathogen of cattle and other wild animals throughout the world. BVDV infection typically leads to an impaired immune response in cattle. In the present study, we investigated the effect of Forsythoside A (FTA) on BVDV infection of bovine peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs).

Article Synopsis
  • A study in Beijing, China, screened 4,327 samples from Holstein dairy cows over four years to gather data on bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) and identify persistently infected (PI) cattle, isolating 18 virus strains.
  • Genetic analysis classified these strains into several subgenotypes, predominantly BVDV-1m and 1a, indicating significant diversity in the region.
  • The study also assessed immune responses in PI cattle, finding downregulation of key immune markers compared to healthy cattle, suggesting that the TLR-7/IRF-7 pathway may help BVDV evade the host’s immune response.
