Atropisomers with multiple stereogenic axes have attracted much attention due to their increasing significance in the fields of natural products, chiral materials, and drug discoveries. However, the catalytic stereoselective construction of axially chiral ring scaffolds with more than two axes on a single benzene ring remains a challenging task. Herein, we present an efficient method for synthesizing triaxially chiral polysubstituted naphthalene scaffolds via sequential Ni(II)-catalyzed Diels-Alder reaction of isobenzofurans and TfOH-promoted dehydrative aromatization reaction.

As insertion-type cathode materials of aqueous Zn-based batteries (ABs), bismuth chalcogenides/oxychalcogenides exhibits relatively limited capacities in ZnSO baseline electrolyte. This work finds that BiTeO (BTO) cathode with pre-added I electrolyte additive can simultaneously achieve conversion and insertion chemistries, which enables aqueous BTO-Zn batteries to deliver an extraordinary electrochemical performance. As shown in the experiment results, the BTO cathode showcases an ultrahigh specific capacity of 534.

Electrophilic addition of alkenes is a textbook reaction that plays a pivotal role in organic chemistry. In the past decades, catalytic asymmetric variants of this important type of reaction have witnessed great achievements by the development of novel catalytic systems. However, enantioselective aza-electrophilic additions of unactivated alkenes, which could provide a transformative strategy for the preparation of synthetically significant nitrogen-containing compounds, still remain a formidable challenge.

Here, we describe a cooperative Pd(0)/chiral phosphoric acid catalytic system that allows us to realize the first chemo-, regio-, and enantioselective sequential cross-[4 + 2]-cycloaddition/decarboxylation reaction between 2-pyrones and unactivated acyclic 1,3-dienes. The key to the success of this transformation is the utilization of an achiral heterocyclic carbene (NHC) as the ligand and a newly developed chiral phosphoric acid as the cocatalyst. Experimental investigations and computational studies support the idea that the Pd(0)/NHC complex acts as a π-Lewis base to increase the nucleophilicity of 1,3-dienes via η coordination, while the chiral phosphoric acid simultaneously increases the electrophilicity of 2-pyrones by hydrogen bonding.

Low-temperature stress during the germination stage is an important abiotic stress that affects the growth and development of northern spring maize and seriously restricts maize yield and quality. Although some quantitative trait locis (QTLs) related to low-temperature tolerance in maize have been detected, only a few can be commonly detected, and the QTL intervals are large, indicating that low-temperature tolerance is a complex trait that requires more in-depth research. In this study, 296 excellent inbred lines from domestic and foreign origins (America and Europe) were used as the study materials, and a low-coverage resequencing method was employed for genome sequencing.

We report herein the collective asymmetric total synthesis of seven pentacyclic 19--clerodane diterpenoids, namely (+)-teucvin (+)-cracroson A, (+)-cracroson E, (+)-montanin A, (+)-teucvisin C, (+)-teucrin A, and (+)-2-hydroxyteuscorolide. An ytterbium-catalyzed asymmetric inverse-electron-demand Diels-Alder reaction of 4-methyl-2-pyrone with a chiral C5-substituted cyclohexa-1,3-dienol silyl ether is the key feature of the synthesis, which provides the common -decalin intermediate with five continuous stereocenters in excellent yield and stereoselectivity. From this diversifiable intermediate, the total synthesis of (+)-teucvin and (+)-2-hydroxyteuscorolide was realized in thirteen and eighteen steps, respectively.

  • G6PDH is an essential enzyme in maize’s metabolic pathway, helping produce NADPH, which is crucial for cellular stress responses and maintaining balance in redox reactions.
  • The study identified and classified five maize G6PDH gene family members into different forms based on their location in the cell and their expression patterns during various developmental stages and stress conditions.
  • Results show that one specific form, ZmG6PDH1, responds strongly to cold stress; knocking it out increases cold sensitivity and disrupts redox balance, leading to more oxidative damage and cell death in the maize mutants.

The C2H2 zinc finger protein is one of the most common zinc finger proteins, widely exists in eukaryotes, and plays an important role in plant growth and development, as well as in salt, low-temperature, and drought stress and other abiotic stress responses. In this study, C2H2 members were identified and analyzed from the low-temperature tolerant transcriptome sequencing data of maize seedlings. The chromosome position, physical and chemical properties, evolution analysis, gene structure, conservative motifs, promoter cis elements and collinearity relationships of gene the family members were analyzed using bioinformatics, and the expression of the ZmC2H2 gene family under cold stress was analyzed by fluorescent quantitative PCR.

We report herein an efficient approach for the enantioselective synthesis of inherently chiral calix[4]arenes via palladium-catalyzed asymmetric intramolecular C-H arylations. Using a chiral bifunctional phosphine-carboxylate ligand, the inherent chirality on macrocyclic scaffolds was induced successfully, from which a wide range of calix[4]arenes with fluorenone motifs were obtained with good yields and excellent enantioselectivities (up to >99% ee). The synthetic utility of this method was demonstrated by diverse transformations of the products, thus substantially expanding the chemical space of chiral calix[4]arenes.

Accumulation of misfolded, aggregating proteins concurrent with disease onset and progression is a hallmark of neurodegenerative proteinopathies. An important class of these are tauopathies, such as frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and Alzheimer's disease (AD), associated with accumulation of aberrant forms of tau protein in the brain. Pathological tau undergoes abnormal post-translational modifications, misfolding, oligomerization and changes in solubility, cellular redistribution, and spreading.

An inverse-electron-demand Diels-Alder (IEDDA) reaction could complement the conventional normal-electron-demand Diels-Alder reaction in the synthesis of six-membered carbocycles. However, catalytic asymmetric all-carbon-based IEDDA reactions are underdeveloped. Herein, we disclosed a copper-catalyzed asymmetric IEDDA reaction using electron-deficient 3-carboalkoxyl-2-pyrones and electronically unbiased indenes as reactants.

Janus Kinases (JAKs) have emerged as an important drug target for the treatment of a number of immune disorders due to the central role that they play in cytokine signalling. 4 isoforms of JAKs exist in mammalian cells and the ideal isoform profile of a JAK inhibitor has been the subject of much debate. JAK3 has been proposed as an ideal target due to its expression being largely restricted to the immune system and its requirement for signalling by cytokine receptors using the common γ-chain.
