This summary provides a concise overview of oral cavity reconstruction to optimize functional outcomes in the modern era. Soft tissue and osseous reconstruction options for a wide range of oral cavity sites including lip, oral tongue, floor of mouth, buccal, hard palate, and composite oromandibular resections are reviewed. The appropriate applications of primary closure, secondary intention, skin grafts, and dermal substitute grafts are included.

However, there are several obstacles hindering the regular practice of exercise, such as transportation difficulties, lack of time, fatigue and comorbidities. E-health in this regard has many potential advantages and could be useful for motivating HD patients to increase their level of physical activity.

Despite global aging and increasing institutionalization in old age, WTD among residents of long-term care facilities (LTCF) is underexplored. We aimed to assess the prevalence of WTD and identify its predictors in older LTCF residents.

Our study assesses the association between CKD stages and gait parameters, to understand the prevalent status of brain related gait parameters (i.e.

However, a closer examination of the transitional phase from predialysis to long-term hemodialysis leads to controversial explanations, considering that the frailty process is already well-described in the early stages of renal insufficiency. This study aims to describe longitudinally and multifactorially changes in the period extending from the decision to start the replacement therapy through to the end of 2 years of hemodialysis.

Research Question: This study hypothesizes a relationship between age-related factors and postural stabilization performance after a transition movement. In particular, the controlled factors in the experiment are: 1) assistance in living (independent living for community-dwelling subjects vs.
The frailty status of hemodialysis patients is well-known, but the role of the therapy in the frailty process is not yet clear. Nowadays gait analysis in nephrology is neglected, although gait performance is known to be related to frailty and kidney function. We hypothesized that gait quality and physical activity level is already affected before, and does not change because of the start of hemodialysis.

Since dementia lacks effective treatments, preventing or delaying it is highly desirable. Dietary habits and nutrition have been found to be important modifiable risk factors for many chronic diseases, but evidence on the role of diet on the risk of dementia is still limited, particularly among the very old.

However, thresholds of temperature limitation may vary substantially with local environmental conditions, leading to heterogeneous responses in tree ecophysiology. We used dendroecological and isotopic methods to quantify shifting tree growth and resource use over the past 143 years across topographic aspects in a high-elevation forest of central Mexico.

We conducted a literature review using PubMed and Cochrane databases to examine micronutrient deficiencies in SG patients in order to identify trends and find consistency in recommendations. Seventeen articles were identified that met the defined criteria.

Rarely, it remains asymptomatic and is discovered incidentally only during adulthood when it seldom causes intestinal complications. The scenario of a cirrhotic adult being diagnosed with asymptomatic intestinal malrotation with subsequent intestinal complications is thus extremely rare and to our knowledge has not been previously reported.

Gait impairment and its consequences is associated with increased hospital admission, institutionalization, and greater need for health care. The objective of this systematic review was to evaluate the quality of studies investigating CKD patients' gait characteristics at different CKD stages, to highlight areas of agreement and contradiction between studies reporting aspects of gait in CKD, and to discuss and emphasize gait parameters associated with fall risk.

Infection of pregnant women with T. gondii can cause ocular and neurological lesions in newborns, and congenital toxoplasmosis has been associated with schizophrenia, epilepsy, movement disorders, and Alzheimer's disease.

Our main goals were to evaluate the effectiveness of using near-infrared light (NIRL) autofluorescence intraoperatively for parathyroid gland identification and to measure its impact on postoperative hypocalcemia incidence.
Study Design: Total thyroidectomies were performed on 170 patients with different thyroid pathologies, block-randomized (1:1) into 2 equal groups.
Background: Postural stabilization is the function which allows an individual, after a transitional movement, to recover balance in a quiet erect posture. An experimental method has been proposed (Rabuffetti, 2011) and proved valid for the assessment of balance disorders in individuals with neurological diseases. It would seem that the two original indices were not fully independent since their concurrent distribution was confined by a hyperbolic boundary.

Introduction: Laparoscopic adrenalectomy (LA) is accepted as the gold standard treatment for most adrenal pathologies. Open surgery is still considered the standard of care for large tumors and malignancies. In the past decade, robotic adrenalectomy (RA) has become an alternative to the laparoscopic and open approaches.

Methods: Eighty-nine patients underwent RT between January 2009 and September 2015 at two tertiary centers. Data were collected from prospectively-maintained IRB-approved databases.
Objective: The aim of this study is to analyze perioperative outcomes of robotic reconstruction of iatrogenic biliary injuries and describe the surgical technique in detail.
Background: Iatrogenic bile duct injuries (BDIs) continue to be a major concern in open and laparoscopic cholecystectomy. In the past decade, robotic surgery has been applied to many different procedures showing technical advantages, especially in microsurgical fields.
Background: Parathyroid gland (PG) identification during thyroid and parathyroid surgery is challenging. Accidental parathyroidectomy increases the rate of postoperative hypocalcaemia. Recently, autofluorescence with near infrared light (NIRL) has been described for PG visualization.

Posturographic parameters have been proven to differentiate between non-fallers and frequent fallers, but not between the first group and infrequent fallers.
Methods: In this study, postural stability with eyes open and closed on both a firm and a compliant surface and while performing a cognitive task was assessed in a consecutive sample of 130 cognitively able elderly, mean age 77(7)years, categorized as non-fallers (N=67), infrequent fallers (one/two falls, N=45) and frequent fallers (more than two falls, N=18) according to their last year fall history.
Several studies have established the sortilin-related receptor gene (SORL1) as a susceptibility locus for Alzheimer's disease (AD). Single nucleotide polymorphisms of SORL1 reported in literature as being associated with AD were investigated in an Italian case-control data set, and their role as a risk factor of conversion to AD was studied in an independent sample of subjects diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) at baseline. rs641120, rs2070045, and rs1010159 were genotyped in 734 subjects diagnosed with AD (n = 338) and MCI (n = 181) and in healthy controls (n = 215).
