Fermented eggplant is a traditional fermented food, however lactic acid bacteria capable of producing exopolysaccharide (EPS) have not yet been exploited. The present study focused on the production and protective effects against oxidative stress of an EPS produced by Lacticaseibacillus paracasei NC4 (NC4-EPS), in addition to deciphering its genomic features and EPS biosynthesis pathway. Among 54 isolates tested, strain NC4 showed the highest EPS yield and antioxidant activity.

Three unique linear oligomeric depsipeptides, designated as cavomycins A-C (-), were identified from , a gut bacterium associated with the annelid . The structures of these depsipeptides were determined through a combination of spectroscopic methods and chemical derivatization techniques, including methanolysis, the modified Mosher's method, advanced Marfey's methods, and phenylglycine methyl ester derivatization. The unique dipeptidyl residue arrangements in compounds - indicate that they are not degradation products of valinomycin.

Unlabelled: Endophytic fungi are known as an alternative promising source of anticancer drug, paclitaxel, however fungi inhabiting in medicinal plant and their paclitaxel production have not been reported to date. Plant diseases caused by phytopathogenic fungi are one of the leading factors affecting crop loss. In the present study, sixty-one Streptomyces strains were screened for their antifungal activity against relevant wide range fungal pathogens prominent in Vietnam, namely Lasiodiplodia theobromae, Fusarium fujikuroi, and Scopulariopsis gossypii. Endophytic strain RC2 was the most effective strain in the mycelial inhibition of the tested fungi.

MarR-family transcription factors often control antioxidant enzymes, multidrug efflux pumps or virulence factors in bacterial pathogens and confer resistance towards oxidative stress and antibiotics. In this study, we have characterized the function and redox-regulatory mechanism of the MarR-type regulator HypS in Mycobacterium smegmatis. RNA-seq transcriptomics and qRT-PCR analyses of the hypS mutant revealed that hypS is autoregulated and represses transcription of the co-transcribed hypO gene which encodes a multidrug efflux pump.

The isolate MPT42, exhibiting broad-spectrum antimicrobial activities and harboring all three antibiotic-related biosynthetic genes III, and , was identified as based on an analysis of the morphology, physiology, and 16S rDNA sequence.
