Polyethylenimine (PEI) is widely applied in non-viral gene delivery vectors. PEI with high molecular weight is highly effective in gene transfection but is high cytotoxic. Conversely, PEI with low molecular weight displays lower cytotoxicity but less delivering efficiency.
