Backgroud: In the diagnosis of bloodstream infections (BSI) in children, compared to the gold standard of blood culture, markers in the blood offer advantages such as rapid results and cost-effectiveness. Therefore, we investigated the clinical value of procalcitonin (PCT), C-reactive protein (CRP), white blood cell count (WBC), and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in the early diagnosis of BSI in children.

Methods: This study included a retrospective analysis of 309 suspected BSI cases and patients were categorized into 2 groups based on blood culture results: blood culture-positive group, and blood culture-negative group.

Bio-based epoxy resins have received significant attention in terms of concerns regarding carbon emission. Previous studies have recognized glaucoma as a neurodegenerative disease that causes extensive brain damage and is closely associated with cognitive function. In this study, we employed functional MRI to examine the intrinsic functional connectivity patterns of the default mode network (DMN) in patients diagnosed with primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG), exploring its association with cognitive dysfunction. Novel thermoplastic polyamide elastomers (TPAEs) consisting of long-chain semicrystalline polyamide 1212 (PA1212) and amorphous polyetheramine were synthesized via one-pot melt polycondensation. The method provides accessible routes to prepare TPAEs with a high tolerance of compatibility between polyamide and polyether oligomers compared with the traditional two-step method. These TPAEs with 10 wt % to 76 wt % of soft content were obtained by reaction of dodecanedioic acid, 1,12-dodecanediamine, and poly(propylene glycol) (PPG) diamine.

Nucleoporins (Nups) are known to be functional in nucleo-cytoplasmic transport, but the roles of nucleoporins in nonproliferating cells, such as cardiac myocytes, are still poorly understood. In this study, we report that Nup107 regulates cardiac bioelectricity by controlling the nucleo-cytoplasmic trafficking of Scn5a mRNA. Overexpression of Nup107 induced the protein expression of Scn5a rather than that of other ion channels, with no effects of their mRNA levels.
