Article Synopsis
  • Airway remodeling plays a crucial role in severe or uncontrolled asthma, influenced by epithelial-mesenchymal trophic units (EMTUs) activated by airway epithelial cells (AECs).
  • Researchers found that elevated levels of the gene Cathepsin C (CTSC) in asthma patients correlate with disease severity and airway remodeling, as shown through RNA sequencing and sputum analysis.
  • Targeting CTSC with a specific compound not only reduced inflammation but also inhibited EMTU activation and airway remodeling, highlighting its potential as a biomarker and treatment target for severe asthma.

Chronic lung disease is the third leading cause of death globally, imposing huge burden of death, disability and healthcare costs. However, traditional pharmacotherapy has relatively limited effects in improving the cure rate and reducing the mortality of chronic lung disease. Thus, new treatments are urgently needed for the prevention and treatment of chronic lung disease.

The folliculitis decalvans (FD) and lichen planopilaris (LPP) phenotypic spectrum combines biphasic features of FD and LPP. It is characterized by successive or concomitant occurrence of pustules, crusts, follicular tufts, perifollicular erythema, perifollicular scales, and cicatricial alopecia and includes mixed histologic features of both FD and LPP. Here, we report the case of a 33-year-old female patient with a 30-year history of FD-LPP phenotypic spectrum lesions.

Background: Antisense noncoding RNA in the INK4 locus (ANRIL) is located on human chromosome 9p21, and modulation of ANRIL expression mediates susceptibility to some important human disease, including atherosclerosis (AS) and tumors, by affecting the cell cycle circANRIL and linear ANRIL are isoforms of ANRIL. However, it remains unclear whether these isoforms have distinct functions. In our research, we constructed a circANRIL overexpression plasmid, transfected it into HEK-293T cell line, and explored potential core genes and signaling pathways related to the important differential mechanisms between the circANRIL-overexpressing cell line and control cells through bioinformatics analysis.

Polyphenol oxidase (PPO) from jackfruit bulb was purified through acetone precipitation, ion-exchange column, and gel filtration column. PPO was a dimer with the molecular weight of 130 kDa determined by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and gel filtration. The Km was 8.
