Article Synopsis
  • - This study investigates the use of MoS monolayers as sensors for heavy metals like As, Cd, Hg, and Pb, using advanced simulation techniques (DFT and NEGF) to analyze their electronic properties upon adsorption.
  • - The findings show that As and Pb affect the MoS structure and electronic characteristics the most, leading to significant sensitivity levels for detection: 126,452.28% for As, 1862.67% for Cd, 427.71% for Hg, and 83,438.90% for Pb.
  • - The sensors are not only highly sensitive and selective—displaying unique responses for As and Pb—but also can recover quickly from adsorption, enhancing their reusability for

This study explores the potential of β-SnSe monolayers as a promising material for ozone (O) sensing using density functional theory (DFT) combined with the non-equilibrium Green's function (NEGF) method. The adsorption characteristics of O molecules on the β-SnSe monolayer surface were thoroughly investigated, including adsorption energy, band structure, density of states (DOSs), differential charge density, and Bader charge analysis. Post-adsorption, hybridization energy levels were introduced into the system, leading to a reduced band gap and increased electrical conductivity.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common malignant tumors with a high mortality rate. The 5-methylcytosine (m5C), a type of RNA modification, plays crucial regulatory roles in HCC carcinogenesis, metastasis, and prognosis. However, a few studies have investigated the effect of genetic variants in m5C modification genes on survival of patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related HCC.

Background: Aspartate transaminase/alanine transaminase (De Ritis) ratio is a good predictor of liver function damage, but its prognostic value in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) undergoing hepatectomy remains unclear. This study aimed to assess the association of the De Ritis ratio with overall survival (OS) among hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related HCC patients undergoing hepatectomy.

Methods: A total of 1,147 HCC patients were recruited.

The effect of surgical margin (SM) on the postoperative prognosis of patients with solitary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains controversial. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of SM on the postoperative prognosis of patients with solitary HCC by using propensity score matching (PSM). Patients with solitary HCC who underwent liver resection were divided into a wide margin group (1.

Maladapted vascular endothelial metabolism in the context of endothelial function differing in phenotype remains unknown, which limits our understanding of the heterogeneous pathogenesis of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVD). This study aimed to profile serum metabolic alterations of different vascular endothelial function phenotypes in asymptomatic adults at extreme cardiovascular risk. In addition to 12 CVD patients, 103 individuals free of CVD were categorized as having normal endothelial function (NEF) ( = 30), cardiovascular risk-promoting endothelial function (PEF) ( = 18), cardiovascular risk-resistant endothelial function (REF) ( = 25), and vulnerable endothelial function (VEF) ( = 30).

Background: The mechanism of microRNAs (miRNAs) in thyroid cancer is still unclear. We identified miRNAs with differential expression in thyroid cancer versus normal tissues.

Methods: Microarray datasets were obtained from the GEO and ArrayExpress databases, and from publications found via PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science.

Abnormal expression of microRNA (miR) is associated with the occurrence and progression of various types of cancers, including papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). In the present study, the aim was to explore miR‑486‑5p expression and its role in PTC, as well as to investigate the biological function of its potential target genes. The expression levels of miR‑486‑5p and its clinicopathological significance were examined in 507 PTC and 59 normal thyroid samples via The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA).

Thyroid cancer (TC) is the most common endocrine malignancy, accounting for approximately 90% of all malignancies of the endocrine system. Despite the fact that patients with TC tend to have good prognoses, the high incidence rate and lymph node metastases remain unresolved issues. Autophagy is an indispensable process that maintains intracellular homeostasis; however, the role of autophagy in several steps of the initiation and progression of TC has not yet been elucidated.
