Article Synopsis
  • Oxidative stress is linked to aging and cancer, but research on its impact on elderly non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) prognosis using machine learning is limited.
  • A study involving 1647 elderly NSCLC patients used machine learning models (Decision Trees, Random Forest, Support Vector Machine) to analyze the relationship between Oxidative Stress Score (OSS) and 5-year overall survival.
  • The Random Forest model showed the best predictive performance for prognosis of NSCLC patients, indicating that low OSS is a significant predictor of poor outcomes, leading to better calibration and accuracy compared to other machine learning models.

In patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), about 25%-35% of patients have a history of other hematological diseases, 10% of patients have a history of malignant tumors in other systems and have received cytotoxic treatment including chemotherapy and/or radiation, and the disease is categorized as therapy-related acute myeloid leukemia (t-AML) according to the World Health Organization (WHO) classification of tumors of hematopoietic and lymphoid tissues. Two subsets of t-AML are generally recognized based on the nature of prior treatments and the characteristics of the disease. The most common type occurs after exposure to alkylating agents and/or radiation, with a latent period of 5 to 10 years.

A practical method to access amino-isocoumarins catalyzed by a Rh(III) complex through redox-neutral C-H/O-H annulation has been disclosed. The use of -functionalized cyclic carbonates is crucial to facilitate the catalytic turnover, and a broad spectrum of amino-isocoumarin derivatives were prepared with satisfactory yields. Amino-isocoumarin estrone conjugated with a selenocyano functionality was identified to be nearly four times as active as the marketed drug abiraterone against T47D cancer cells.

Cyclohexane, a typical volatile organic compound (VOC), poses high risks to the environment and humans. Herein, synthesized PdAg/FeO catalysts exhibited exceptional catalytic performance for cyclohexane combustion at lower temperatures (50% mineralization temperature () of 199 °C, 90% mineralization temperature () of 315 °C) than Pd/FeO ( of 262 °C, of 335 °C) and FeO ( of 305 °C, of 360 °C). In addition, PdAg/FeO displayed enhanced stability by alloying Ag with Pd.

Article Synopsis
  • EGFR-mutant nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients often show low PD-L1 positivity, making it rare for squamous cell lung cancer (SQCC) patients to have both EGFR mutations and PD-L1 over-expression, leading to a lack of treatment studies for this group.
  • A patient with SQCC was diagnosed via pleural biopsy and was found to have an EGFR exon 19 deletion and high PD-L1 levels, but did not respond to EGFR-targeted therapy.
  • Pembrolizumab treatment led to significant improvement, although the patient experienced severe immune-related side effects, showing that immune checkpoint inhibitors could be promising but require monitoring.

We conducted pot experiments during the 2018-2020 growing seasons to study the effects of night warming at different growth stages of wheat on the photosynthetic performance; accumulation, transportation, and distribution of dry matter; and grain yield of winter wheat. Night warming at all the different growth stages resulted in an elevation of wheat yield by increasing the 1000-grain weight and the number of grains per ear. Night warming during the period from jointing to booting stage resulted in the greatest increase in wheat yield.

As a chronic disease, cervical spondylosis is prone to recurrent attacks as we age if we do not pay attention to protection, which can easily lead to symptoms such as osteophytes and herniated discs. In the early stage of cervical spondylosis, it is possible to alleviate the disease and prevent its aggravation by improving poor cervical posture and increasing cervical activities. This article analyzes the current situation and medical prospect of smart wearable devices with the prevention and treatment of cervical spondylosis in white-collar people as the starting point and smart wearable devices as the focus and provides a detailed analysis of the functions, categories, technologies, and applications of smart wearable devices to provide a technical theoretical basis for the construction of the subsequent research system.
