Acute lung injury (ALI) is one of the most common and extremely critical clinical conditions, which progresses with an inflammatory response and overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS), leading to oxidative damage to the lungs. Curcumin (Cur) has great potential in treating ALI due to its excellent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. In this study, Cur and alginate were cross-linked by zinc ions and intermolecular hydrogen bonding to form an inhalable aqueous nanogel system to overcome Cur's low solubility and bioavailability.

As the misuse of antibiotics increases bacterial resistance, the treatment of infected wounds caused by bacteria encounters significant challenges. Conventional antimicrobial dressings often fall short in their ability to inhibit bacterial infections while simultaneously promoting wound healing. To address this issue, a polysaccharide self-healing hydrogel (CPP@PDA/Que3) wound dressing is successfully developed by incorporating quercetin and polydopamine nanoparticles into a carboxymethyl chitosan matrix.

The uranium recovery from high concentration fluorine-containing uranium wastewater is a desired research target in the field of environmental radiochemistry but is very challenging due to the formation of stable uranium fluoride complexes that are quite difficult to extract. By employing surface defect engineering and interfacial heterostructure design, we present here the rational design of an efficient photocatalyst (Ag/WO) for U(VI) uptake from fluorine-containing uranium wastewater without any sacrificial agents. The defect-rich surface of Ag/WO facilitates confined adsorption of uranium, while the introduction of Ag nanoparticles enables both efficient electron-hole separation and a plasmon effect upon light irradiation.

Low-dimensional (<10 nm) semiconductor carbon quantum dots (CQDs) have been widely used in metal ion sensing and bioimaging. Here, we used the renewable resource Curcuma zedoaria as a carbon source and prepared green carbon quantum dots with good water solubility by a hydrothermal method without any chemical reagent. At different pH values (4-6) and high NaCl concentrations, the photoluminescence of the CQDs was very stable, which indicated that they were suitable for a wide range of applications even under harsh conditions.
