Biosorbents have been extensively studied for heavy metal adsorption due to their advantages of low cost and high efficiency. In the study, the living and non-living biomass of Cupriavidus necator GX_5 previously isolated were evaluated for their adsorption capacity and/or removal efficiency for Cd (II) through batch experiments, SEM and FT-IR investigations. The maximum removal efficiency rates for the live and dead biomass were 60.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFloral induction in litchi is influenced by multiple environment cues including temperature and soil water condition. In the present study, we determined that a combined treatment consisting of 14-day drought imposed prior to exposure to 35-day low temperature (T3) significantly promoted litchi flowering relative to the low temperature alone (T2), suggesting an integrative effect of drought and low temperature on litchi floral initiation. Analysis of transcriptomic changes in leaves from different treatments showed that 2,198 and 4,407 unigenes were differentially expressed in response to drought and low temperature, respectively.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLitchi (Litchi chinensis) is an important subtropical evergreen fruit crop with high commercial value due to its high nutritional values and favorable tastes. However, irregular bearing attributed to unstable flowering is a major ongoing problem for litchi producers. There is a need to better understand the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying the reproductive process in litchi.

Objective: To study the effect of acupuncture on the immune function of sepsis patients.
Methods: Ninety sepsis patients were assigned to the control group, the thymosin a1 group, and the acupuncture treatment group according to random digit table, 30 patients in each group. Patients in the control group were treated according to the guideline of Surviving Sepsis Campaign (SSC).
Cisplatin-loaded poly(l-glutamic acid)-g-methoxy poly(ethylene glycol 5K) nanoparticles (CDDP-NPs) were characterized and exploited for the treatment of non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). In vitro metabolism experiments showed that a glutamic acid 5-mPEG ester [CH3O(CH2CH2O)nGlu] was generated when the poly(l-glutamic acid)-g-methoxy poly(ethylene glycol 5K) (PLG-g-mPEG5K) was incubated with HeLa cells. This suggests that the poly(glutamic acid) backbone of the PLG-g-mPEG5K is biodegradable.

Objective: To observe the clinical effect of acupuncture on acute heart failure (AHF) patients.
Methods: Totally 60 patients who were diagnosed as AHF were assigned to the acupuncture group and the control group, 30 in each group. Those in the control group received inotropic agents, preload and afterload reducing therapy, anti-infection and so on.
