Article Synopsis
  • Gastric cancer (GC) often leads to high mortality rates, primarily due to drug resistance in chemotherapy, making understanding DNA methylation crucial for prognosis and treatment.
  • A study analyzed DNA methylation data alongside survival outcomes to find differential methylation patterns in patients who received chemotherapy versus those who didn't, identifying 308 genes linked to patient prognosis.
  • Six key genes were selected to create a risk model indicating that patients with high-risk scores had shorter survival rates, underscoring the potential of DNA methylation as a predictor for chemotherapy outcomes in GC patients.

Our previous studies have initially identified HJURP, which encodes a Holliday junction recognizing protein, as a hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) susceptibility gene. In this report, we showed that the HJURP is highly expressed in HCC tissues compared to adjacent normal tissues. Overexpression of HJURP in HCC tissues is mainly due to the hypomethylation of HJURP promoter region.
