Objective: At present, a number of very severe aplastic anemia (VSAA) patients cannot receive hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) or standard immunosuppressive therapy (IST) due to the high cost of therapy, shortage of sibling donors, and lack of resources to support the HSCT. In addition, some VSAA patients with autoantibodies have no life-threatening infections or bleeding at the time of initial diagnosis. Considering the disease condition, economics and other factors, the present study designed a new and relatively mild treatment strategy: cyclosporine A plus pulsed high-dose prednisone (CsA+HDP).

Background: Particulate matter≤ 2.5 μm (PM) is a type of environmental agent associated with air pollution, which induces hepatic fibrosis. However, the function and mechanism of PM on hepatic stellate cell (HSC) proliferation and fibrosis remain largely unknown.

Objective: To study the clinical features, treatment, and prognosis of pure red cell aplasia (PRCA) in children.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed for the clinical data of 16 children with PRCA. The outcome and prognosis of patients treated with prednisone combined with Huaiqihuang granules versus prednisone alone were evaluated.

We report one case of pediatric acute myeloid leukemia type 2 (AML-M2) who presented with karyotypic aberration of trisomy 21 with the t(5;11) chromosomal translocation. The patient achieved complete remission after two cycles of chemotherapy of daunorubicin, cytarabine and etoposide. Then, follow-up cytogenetic analysis from bone marrow cell cultures demonstrated a normal karyotype of 46, XY.

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the etiological factors, clinical features, and prognostic factors in children with hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH).

Methods: Fifty-six children with HLH in Wuhan Union Hospital, People's Republic of China, were retrospectively analyzed in recent years. We reviewed the medical records of 56 HLH children hospitalized from 2000 to 2013 to identify the possible prognostic factors.

We report on the generation of a high-repetition-rate pulse in a fiber laser using a graphene-deposited microfiber photonic device (GMPD) and a Fabry-Perot filter. Taking advantage of the unique nonlinear optical properties of the GMPD, dissipative four-wave mixing effect (DFWM) could be induced at low pump power. Based on DFWM mode-locking mechanism, the fiber laser delivers a 100 GHz repetition rate pulse train.

We report on the trapping of noise-like pulse in a figure-eight fiber laser mode locked by nonlinear amplifier loop mirror (NALM). After achievement of noise-like vector pulse, it was found that the wavelength shift of the two resolved polarization components responsible for the pulse trapping was very sensitive to the cavity birefringence. By properly rotating the polarization controllers (PCs), the wavelength shift could be up to 4.

We reported on the generation of dual-wavelength rectangular pulses in a Yb-doped fiber laser (YDFL) by using a microfiber-based graphene saturable absorber (GSA). The duration of dual-wavelength rectangular pulse could be varied from 1.41 ns to 4.

The vector nature of multi-soliton dynamic patterns was investigated in a passively mode-locked figure-eight fiber laser based on the nonlinear amplifying loop mirror (NALM). By properly adjusting the cavity parameters such as the pump power level and intra-cavity polarization controllers (PCs), in addition to the fundamental vector soliton, various vector multi-soliton regimes were observed, such as the random static distribution of vector multiple solitons, vector soliton cluster, vector soliton flow, and the state of vector multiple solitons occupying the whole cavity. Both the polarization-locked vector solitons (PLVSs) and the polarization-rotating vector solitons (PRVSs) were observed for fundamental soliton and each type of multi-soliton patterns.

Objective: To study the expression of ecotropic viral integration site (EVI1) gene in childhood acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and the clinical features of EVI1-positive children with AML.

Methods: The clinical data of EVI1-positive children with AML were collected and analyzed. RT-PCR and real-time quantitative PCR were used for qualitative and quantitative analysis of expression of EVI1.

We reported on the dissipative soliton resonance (DSR) phenomenon in a mode-locked Yb-doped fiber laser by using the nonlinear polarization rotation technique. It was found that the multi-pulse oscillation under high pump power could be circumvented by properly adjusting the polarization controllers, namely, the wave-breaking-free rectangular pulse in DSR region was achieved. As the DSR signature, the pulse duration varied from 8.

We report on the vector nature of rectangular pulse operating in dissipative soliton resonance (DSR) region in a passively mode-locked fiber laser. Apart from the typical signatures of DSR, the rectangular pulse trapping of two polarization components centered at different wavelengths was observed and they propagated as a group-velocity locked vector soliton. Moreover, the polarization resolved soliton spectra show different spectral distributions.

The generation of mode-locked rectangular pulses operating in dissipative soliton resonance (DSR) region is demonstrated in an erbium-doped figure-eight fiber laser with net anomalous dispersion. The duration of the wave-breaking-free rectangular pulse broadens with the increase of pump power. At a maximum pump power of 341 mW, the pulse energy can be up to 3.

Objective: This study compared the differences in clinical features between chronic aplastic anemia (CAA) and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) in children in order to provide a basis for the differential diagnosis of the two diseases.

Methods: A retrospective study of 23 cases of CAA and 9 cases of MDS from September 2007 to September 2010 was performed. The clinical data including routine blood test results, reticulocyte counts, serum lactate dehydrogenase level, serum ferritin level, cytological examination of bone marrow, bone marrow CD34+ cell counts, bone marrow chromosome and FISH test results were compared between the CAA and MDS groups.
