Highly Efficient Near-Infrared Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescent Emitters in Non-Doped Electroluminescent Devices.

Constructing organic near-infrared (NIR) luminescent materials to confront the formidable barrier of "energy gap law" remains challenging. Herein, two NIR thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) molecules named T-β-IQD and TIQD were developed by connecting N,N-diphenylnaphthalen-2-amine and triphenylamine with a novel electron withdrawing unit 6-(4-(tert-butyl)phenyl)-6H-indolo[2,3-b]quinoxaline-2,3-dicarbonitrile. It is confirmed NIR-TADF emitters concurrent with aggregation-induced emission effect, J-aggregate with intra- and intermolecular CN⋅⋅⋅H-C and C-H⋅⋅⋅π interactions, and large center-to-center distance in solid states can boost the emissive efficiencies both in thin films and non-doped organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs).

Cloning and characterization of endolysin and holin from Streptomyces avermitilis bacteriophage phiSASD1 as potential novel antibiotic candidates.

Bacteriophages (phages), or bacterial viruses, have recently received increasing attention, especially considering pan-drug-resistant bacteria, and studies on lytic bacteriophage proteins would help develop antibiotic candidates to treat these bacterial infections. We previously isolated and sequenced a Streptomyces avermitilis bacteriophage, phiSASD1. This study aimed to clone and express ORF40 and ORF19, previously predicted as endolysin (termed LytSD) and holin (termed HolSD), two crucial phage proteins involved in host lysis.

Characterization and genome analysis of the temperate bacteriophage φSAJS1 from Streptomyces avermitilis.

Streptomyces is an important antibiotic-producing bacterium; however, antibiotic production is often negatively affected by bacteriophage contamination. In the present study, the temperate phage φSAJS1 was isolated and characterized from an unsuccessful Streptomyces avermitilis fermentation culture. The complete genome of phage φSAJS1 was sequenced.

MOF Acetylates the Histone Demethylase LSD1 to Suppress Epithelial-to-Mesenchymal Transition.

The histone demethylase LSD1 facilitates epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and tumor progression by repressing epithelial marker expression. However, little is known about how its function may be modulated. Here, we report that LSD1 is acetylated in epithelial but not mesenchymal cells.

Evaluation of the spermicidal and contraceptive activity of Platycodin D, a Saponin from Platycodon grandiflorum.

Background: The extract of Platycodon grandiflorum has been reported to have effective spermicidal activity. This study was designed to evaluate the spermicidal and contraceptive activity, as well as the safety, of Platycodin D (PD), a major saponin in Platycodon grandiflorum.

Methods: Using the computer-aided sperm analysis (CASA) test criteria, the sperm-immobilizing activity of PD was studied using highly motile human sperm.

[Preliminary study on correlation between diversity of soluble proteins and producing area of Cordyceps sinensis].

To analyze the content and type of soluble proteins in Cordyceps sinensis from different producing areas and processed with different methods with bradford method and 2-DE technology, in order to discover significant differences in soluble proteins in C. sinensis processed with different methods and from different producing areas. The preliminary study indicated that the content and diversity of soluble proteins were related to producing areas and processing methods to some extent.

Concomitant inhibition of DNA methyltransferase and BCL-2 protein function synergistically induce mitochondrial apoptosis in acute myelogenous leukemia cells.

DNA methylation and BLC-2 are potential therapeutic targets in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). We investigated pharmacologic interaction between the DNA methyltransferase inhibitor 5-azacytidine (5-AZA) and the BCL-2 inhibitor ABT-737. Increased BCL-2 expression determined by reverse phase protein analysis was associated with poor survival in AML patients with unfavorable cytogenetics (n = 195).

Regulation of HIF-1α signaling and chemoresistance in acute lymphocytic leukemia under hypoxic conditions of the bone marrow microenvironment.

Overcoming resistance to chemotherapy is the main therapeutic challenge in the treatment of acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL). Interactions between leukemia cells and the microenvironment promote leukemia cell survival and confer resistance to chemotherapy. Hypoxia is an integral component of bone marrow (BM) microenvironment.

The investigation of HIV and HCV infection and risk factors among opiate drug users in Beijing, China.

Objective: To explore the prevalence of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) and the risk factors among opiate drug users in Beijing.

Methods: The opiate drug users enrolled in methadone maintenance treatment clinics of Beijing from 30 November 2004 to 31 March 2008 were investigated. The blood samples were collected and tested for HIV and HCV infection and questionnaires were used for all subjects admitted.

Conditioned drug reward enhances subsequent spatial learning and memory in rats.

Rationale: Chronic exposure to drugs of abuse alters neural processes that normally promote learning and memory. A context that is repeatedly paired with reinforcing drugs will acquire secondary reinforcing properties (conditioned reward). However, the effects of conditioned reward on spatial learning are unknown.

Effects of stress during reactivation on rewarding memory.

When a stabilized memory is recalled or reactivated, it becomes labile and sensitive to disruptors such as protein-synthesis inhibitors. Previous evidence demonstrates that stress modulates different aspects of memory. The role of stress during reactivation on rewarding or aversive memory is not known, however.

HDAC1 acetylation is linked to progressive modulation of steroid receptor-induced gene transcription.

Although histone deacetylases (HDACs) are generally viewed as corepressors, we show that HDAC1 serves as a coactivator for the glucocorticoid receptor (GR). Furthermore, a subfraction of cellular HDAC1 is acetylated after association with the GR, and this acetylation event correlates with a decrease in promoter activity. HDAC1 in repressed chromatin is highly acetylated, while the deacetylase found on transcriptionally active chromatin manifests a low level of acetylation.
