- Results showed a COD removal rate of 83.6% in the reactor with FeO NPs, slightly lower than the control, but it had higher concentrations of tightly bound extracellular polymeric substances (TB-EPS) and soluble microbial products (SMP).
- Changes in microbial communities included a reduction in Proteobacteria and significant increases in Actinobacteria and Bacteroidetes, suggesting that FeO NPs favor certain bacteria that enhance organic matter breakdown.
