This research explores a novel paradigm for preserving topological segmentations in existing error-bounded lossy compressors. Today's lossy compressors rarely consider preserving topologies such as Morse-Smale complexes, and the discrepancies in topology between original and decompressed datasets could potentially result in erroneous interpretations or even incorrect scientific conclusions. In this paper, we focus on preserving Morse-Smale segmentations in 2D/3D piecewise linear scalar fields, targeting the precise reconstruction of minimum/maximum labels induced by the integral line of each vertex.

  • * A protein called FgNup2 is important for the fungus's growth and helps it produce toxins that are bad for wheat.
  • * The study found that without FgNup2, the fungus struggles to grow and is less harmful to wheat, suggesting it could be a target for new fungicides.

Background: Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is the most common spinal disorder in children, characterized by insidious onset and rapid progression, which can lead to severe consequences if not detected in a timely manner. Currently, the diagnosis of AIS primarily relies on X-ray imaging. However, due to limitations in healthcare access and concerns over radiation exposure, this diagnostic method cannot be widely adopted.

Background: Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been hailed as a rich source of medicine, but many types of herbs and their functions still need to be rapidly discovered and elucidated. HerboChip, a target-based drug screening platform, is an array of different fractions deriving from herbal extracts. This study was designed to identify effective components from TCM that interact with vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) as a target using HerboChip.

Much of the profound interspecific variation in genome content has been attributed to transposable elements (TEs). To explore the extent of TE variation within species, we developed an optimized open-source algorithm, panEDTA, to de novo annotate TEs in a pangenome context. We then generated a unified TE annotation for a maize pangenome derived from 26 reference-quality genomes, which reveals an excess of 35.

  • Roxadustat is an oral medication used to treat renal anemia, but its pharmacokinetics (how the drug moves in the body) in kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) with early posttransplant anemia (PTA) had not been previously studied.
  • A population pharmacokinetic analysis was conducted with data from 52 Chinese KTRs, identifying factors like body weight and bilirubin levels that affect the drug’s clearance from the body.
  • The study successfully developed a dosing regimen for roxadustat, recommending it at 100 mg three times a week for most KTRs, with adjustments based on individual body weight and bilirubin levels.

  • This study analyzed the outcomes of revision surgery for recurrent ulnar nerve compression in eight patients who had previously undergone anterior subcutaneous transposition to understand how effective it is.
  • All patients exhibited enlarged ulnar nerves before surgery, with significant compression found at various locations.
  • Post-surgery results showed substantial improvements in symptoms, grip strength, and nerve function, with seven out of eight patients expressing satisfaction with their recovery.

  • Scrub typhus is an infectious disease spread by chigger bites, and omadacycline is a new antibiotic that shows promise against various pathogens but has limited use for this infection.
  • A case study examined patients with scrub typhus who presented symptoms like fever, ulcers, and lymph node swelling, confirming the infection through next-generation sequencing before treating with omadacycline.
  • Following treatment with omadacycline, patients experienced symptom relief within two days without any negative side effects, indicating its potential as an alternative treatment for scrub typhus.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia among the elderly, accounting for 60 %-70 % of cases. At present, the pathogenesis of this condition remains unclear, but the hydrolysis of acetylcholine (ACh) is thought to play a role. Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) can break down ACh transmission from the presynaptic membrane and stop neurotransmitters' excitatory effect on the postsynaptic membrane, which plays a key role in nerve conduction.

The apple orchards in Liaoning, one of the four major apple-producing areas in Bohai Bay, Northeast China, play a crucial role in regulating the carbon sink effect. However, there is limited information on the variation in carbon flux and its influential factors in apple orchards in this region. To address this, CO flux data were monitored throughout the entire apple growth seasons from April to November in 2017 and 2018 in the apple (Malus pumila Mill.

In Candida albicans, Cdr1 pumps azole drugs out of the cells to reduce intracellular accumulation at detrimental concentrations, leading to azole-drug resistance. Milbemycin oxime, a veterinary anti-parasitic drug, strongly and specifically inhibits Cdr1. However, how Cdr1 recognizes and exports azole drugs, and how milbemycin oxime inhibits Cdr1 remain unclear.

Unlabelled: Although the Omicron variant has been associated with greater transmissibility and tropism of the upper respiratory tract, the clinical and pathogenic features of patients infected with the Omicron variant during an outbreak in China have been unclear. Adults with COVID-19 were retrospectively enrolled from seven medical centers in Guangzhou, China, and clinical information and specimens ( BALF, sputum, and throat swabs) from participants were collected. Conventional detection methods, metagenomics next-generation sequencing (mNGS), and other methods were used to detect pathogens in lower respiratory tract samples.

We theoretically identify the ScSeI monolayer as a promising new 2D material for photocatalysis through first-principles calculations. The most notable feature is the significant difference in carrier mobility, with electron mobility in the horizontal direction being 20.66 times higher than hole mobility, minimizing electron-hole recombination.

The Narasaka-Heck reaction is one of the most straightforward methods for constructing pyrroline derivatives. Herein, we report a novel nickel-catalyzed three-component carbonylation reaction, which cleverly realizes the continuous construction of C(sp)-N bonds and C(sp)-C(sp) bonds and effectively promotes the synthesis of acyl-substituted pyrroline derivatives. Furthermore, this strategy not only expands the conversion pathway of γ,δ-unsaturated oxime esters but also provides a new method for the synthesis of nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds.

Pigeon egg white (PEW) is widely recognized as a promising source of bioactive proteins, with a high degree of glycosylation. This study focused on the characterization of a novel glycoprotein extracted from PEW, known as ovalbumin-related protein Y (OVAY). Our investigation included an analysis of the N-glycan and protein structures of OVAY, as well as an examination of simulated gastrointestinal digestive products and the transmembrane transport mechanism of OVAY-digested peptides.

A rapid high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) protocol for the determination of amino acids with 6-aminoquinolyl-N-hydroxysuccinimidyl carbamate (AQC) derivatization was successfully developed for assessing amino acid levels in six species of representative commercial bee pollen. Based on a poroshell column, a favorable chromatographic separation of seventeen amino acids was achieved in approximately 10 min with satisfactory resolution. The LOD and LOQ of this method were less than 0.
