Lateral ventricular cystic meningioma: 2 rare case reports.

Cystic meningioma is an uncommon meningioma variant that is often difficult to distinguish from other intra-axial tumors, including necrotic gliomas. Supramolecular ionic liquid gels for quasi-solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells.

The gel-to-sol phase transition temperature of the prepared supramolecular ionic liquid gel could be tuned by the ratio of host to guest. The synthesized supramolecular ionic liquid gel was further applied in quasi-solid-state electrolyte dye-sensitized solar cells, which showed a power conversion efficiency of 4.

Multistimuli Responsive and Electroactive Supramolecular Gels Based on Ionic Liquid Gemini Guest.

Electroactive supramolecular gels with multistimuli responsiveness were fabricated through host-guest interactions between a host polymer containing β-cyclodextrin (CD) and an ionic liquid (IL) type asymmetric gemini guest, which contains both ferrocene (Fc) and bis(trifluoromethyl-sulfonyl)imide (TFSI) as the respective α- and ω-guest groups. Owing to the multiple stimuli-responsiveness of the host-guest interactions, reversible sol-gel phase transition could be triggered by various stimuli, including temperature, electrochemical/chemical redox and anion-exchange reactions. Due to the intrinsically conductive properties of the IL gemini guest, the sol-gel transition behavior could be electrochemically controlled by the applied voltage, without using additional supporting electrolyte.

Effects of substituents and substitution positions on alkaline stability of imidazolium cations and their corresponding anion-exchange membranes.

Imidazolium cations with butyl groups at various substitution positions (N1-, C2-, and N3-), 1-butyl-2,3-dimethylimidazolium ([N1-BDMIm](+)), 2-butyl-1,3-dimethylimidazolium ([C2-BDMIm](+)), and 3-butyl-1,2-dimethylimidazolium ([N3-BDMIm](+)), were synthesized. Quantitative (1)H NMR spectra and density functional theory calculation were applied to investigate the chemical stability of the imidazolium cations in alkaline solutions. The results suggested that the alkaline stability of the imidazolium cations was drastically affected by the C2-substitution groups.

The functional architecture of the human brain has been extensively described in terms of functional connectivity networks, detected from the low-frequency coherent neuronal fluctuations during a resting state condition. Accumulating evidence suggests that the overall organization of functional connectivity networks is associated with individual differences in cognitive performance and prior experience. Such an association raises the question of how cognitive expertise exerts an influence on the topological properties of large-scale functional networks.

Cisplatin-alginate conjugate liposomes for targeted delivery to EGFR-positive ovarian cancer cells.

Systemic side effects and low aqueous solubility have limited the clinical use of cisplatin (CDDP) in ovarian carcinoma and have contributed to failures in developing effective drug delivery systems. In order to develop a novel drug delivery system with enhanced efficacy and minimal adverse effects, we exploited the properties of sodium alginate (SA) to synthesize CDDP-SA conjugate (CS), which is highly soluble and readily incorporated into liposomes (CS-PEG-Lip). Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is overexpressed in many ovarian cancers, therefore we modified EGF on the liposomes (CS-EGF-Lip) to specifically target EGFR-expressing tumors, thereby increasing the bioavailability and efficacy of CDDP.

Characterization of Argonaute2 gene from black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) and its responses to immune challenges.

Argonaute2 binds to a short guide RNA (microRNA or short interfering RNA) and guides RNAs direct RISC to complementary mRNAs that are targets for RISC-mediated gene silencing. Here we identified and characterized Argonaute2 from black tiger shrimp Penaeus monodon (designated as PmAgo2). The full-length cDNA of PmAgo2 contained a 5' untranslated region (UTR) of 106 bp, an open reading frame (ORF) of 2616 bp and a 3' UTR of 123 bp.
