Specific rules for time and space of multisensory plasticity in the superior colliculus.

Cat superior colliculus (SC) neurons commonly combine information from different senses, which facilitates event detection and localization. Integration in SC multisensory neurons depends on the spatial and temporal relationships between cross-modal cues. Here, we revealed the parallel process of short-term plasticity in the temporal/spatial integration process during adulthood that adapts multisensory integration to reliable changes in environmental conditions.
