Article Synopsis
  • Percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy (PDT) is a quick surgical method to create an artificial airway, but existing endotracheal tubes can complicate the procedure in ICU patients.
  • Medical staff at the First People's Hospital of Chenzhou developed a patented laryngeal mask and monitoring device to assist in safely withdrawing endotracheal tubes during PDT without risking airway emergencies.
  • This new device provides real-time monitoring of the tracheal catheter withdrawal, ensuring patient safety while being user-friendly and efficient for medical personnel.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the neuroprotective effects of polydatin (PD) against cell death and mitochondrial damage caused by focal cerebral ischemia in rats.
  • PD was administered before inducing ischemia and resulted in improved neurological scores and reduced brain damage 24 hours later.
  • The treatment was shown to decrease apoptosis by increasing protective protein levels, preventing mitochondrial dysfunction, and reducing oxidative stress in neurons.

Background: This study was undertaken to investigate the expression of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) in rat cerebral cortex and the effects of β-sodium aescinate (SA) administration after return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC).

Methods: SIXTY RATS WERE DIVIDED INTO THREE GROUPS: SA group, injected intraperitoneally with SA instantly after ROSC; control group, injected intraperitoneally with normal saline; and sham-operated group, without cardiac arrest or SA. The cardiac arrest model was established using asphyxiation and intravenous potassium chloride.
