l-Phenyllactic acid (l-PLA) is a small molecular organic acid that exhibits a powerful capacity for inhibition against foodborne pathogens. In this work, we developed a new cost-effective and environmentally friendly process for the biosynthesis of l-PLA. This strategy designed a novel whole-cell biotransformation system employing two heterologous enzymes, namely, phenylalanine dehydrogenase (PheDH) and l-hydroxyisocaproate dehydrogenase (l-HicDH).

Article Synopsis
  • - Zearalenone (ZEN) is a harmful mycotoxin affecting human health, and there's a need for eco-friendly methods to eliminate it.
  • - Researchers enhanced the lactonase enzyme Zhd101 from Clonostachys rosea through mutations, creating a more effective version called Zhd101.1, which showed improved activity and stability.
  • - The mutant enzyme demonstrated a 96.9% degradation rate of ZEN in solutions and 74.6% in contaminated corn, indicating its potential for use in food and feed industries.
