Background: Propofol is a widely used intravenous anesthetic in clinic. However, it is easy to cause serious circulatory fluctuation in elderly patients, so the dose should be reduced as appropriate. Studies have shown that wrist-ankle acupuncture (WAA) can reduce the dosage of propofol in patients undergoing painless endoscopy.

However, its effects and the underlying molecular mechanisms on gastric cancer (GC) remain poorly understood.
Methods: The anti-growth activity of Ber on two GC cell lines and normal gastric epithelial cell line were evaluated using MTS and clone formation assay.
Background And Objectives: To investigate the effects of oral preoperative regimens on gastric emptying time in relation to BMI in Chinese adults.
Methods And Study Design: The enrolled 56 adults were divided into three groups (normal-weight, underweight, and overweight) and completed a regimen of two drinks after a 2-week interval. After drinking a carbohydrate regimen (CD, 50 g carbohydrates) or a carbohydrate glutamine regimen (CGD, 44 g carbohydrates and 6 g glutamine) labelled with 99mTc-DTPA (99mTc-diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid), gastric emptying times T50 and T90 were measured using a curve derived from scintigraphic images.
Introduction: Pancreatic cancer (PC) is one of the leading causes of cancer, with the lowest 5-year survival rate of all cancer types. Given the fast metastasis of PC and its resistance to surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and combinations thereof, it is imperative to develop more effective anti-PC drugs. Phillygenin (PHI) has been reported to exert anti-cancer, anti-bacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties.

Introduction: Alzheimer disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by progressive cognitive dysfunction, which is mainly manifested as memory impairment and a reduced ability to self-care, often accompanied by neuropsychiatric and behavioral disorders. Donepezil is the second drug to be approved by the US FDA for the treatment of AD. Of the five FDA-approved drugs for AD treatment, donepezil is currently the most widely used.

Materials And Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed involving 515 elderly patients (≥ 60 years old) with NAFLD. Demographics, body mass index (BMI), medical history, and laboratory parameters were compared for groups stratified by obesity (≥ 28 kg/m2) or CKD.
Background: Accurately predicting the basal metabolic rate (BMR) of patients in a vegetative state (VS) or minimally conscious state (MCS) is critical to proper nutritional therapy, but commonly used equations have not been shown to be accurate. Therefore, we compared the BMR measured by indirect calorimetry (IC) to BMR values estimated using common predictive equations in VS and MCS patients.
Methods: Body composition variables were measured using the bioelectric impedance analysis (BIA) technique.

Objective: To observe the energy expenditure in severe traumatic brain injury patients, and to assess the impact of cumulative energy balance on clinical outcomes.
Methods: Using prospective self-controlled study, the change in energy expenditure of 42 patients with severe traumatic brain injury was measured by indirect calorimetry (IC). Daily energy intake was recorded.
Objective: To compare measurement of energy expenditure (MEE) by indirect calorimetry (IC) with traditional estimation of energy expenditure (EEE), to provide a basis for energy supplementary for critically ill patients.
Methods: Using self-controlled study, the energy expenditure of 57 intensive care unit (ICU) patients was measured by IC. Meanwhile, EEE was also calculated using the following equations : Harris-Benedict (HB), HB×factor , or 104.
