Acute lung injury (ALI), induced by intestinal ischemia reperfusion (II/R) injury, is characterized by pulmonary edema and inflammation. Aquaporin 4 (AQP4), has been pointed out recently involving in edema development. Previous studies have shown that p38 mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK) activation resulted in lung inflammation, while p38 MAPK inhibitor can alleviate the pathology injury of lung tissue.

Transforming growth factor β1 (TGF-β1) is a multi-functional cytokine implicated in many aspects of mammalian wound healing and scar tissue formation. However, few experiments have so far addressed the potential biological effects of TGF-β1 in the nervous system after injury, in addition to the immune system. In the present study, expressional silencing TGF-β1 was achieved by selecting predesigning hairpins targeting mouse TGF-β1 genes.

High aldosterone (Ald) levels can induce hypertrophy of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs), which carries high risks of heart failure. A previous study showed that Ald induces hypertrophy of VSMCs by up-regulating NOX1, a catalytic subunit of NADPH oxidase that produces superoxides. However, the precise mechanism remains unknown.

A human testis-specific gene was isolated by subtractive hybridization between the cDNA pools of adult and fetal testes, followed by rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE). This gene sequence is highly homologous to a large portion of the mouse Tcp11 gene which is important in sperm function because it encodes the receptor for fertilization-promoting peptide (FPP). The gene was mapped to human chromosome band 6p21 by fluorescence in-situ hybridization.
