Solitary thyroid gland metastasis from rectal cancer: A case report and review of the literature.

Background: Metastatic carcinoma of the thyroid gland is a rare encounter in clinical practice, but autopsy series showed that it is not so rare. Thyroid metastasis from colorectal cancer (CRC) is rare and has a poor prognosis. We herein report a rare case of solitary thyroid metastasis from rectal cancer combined with needle tract implantation after fine-needle aspiration (FNA) of the thyroid nodule and review the relevant literature.

Integrated analysis of RNA-seq in hepatocellular carcinoma reveals competing endogenous RNA network composed of circRNA, lncRNA, and mRNA.

Background: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been hypothesized to have important roles in the etiology of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the synergistic effect of circRNA and lncRNA in the pathogenesis of HCC has rarely been studied.

Methods: In this study, the Gene Expression Omnibus database was used to get the expression profiles of circRNAs, micro RNAs (miRNAs), lncRNAs, and messenger RNAs (mRNAs) in HCC tissues and normal tissues.

Primary hepatic adenosquamous carcinoma: A rare case report.

Primary hepatic adenosquamous carcinoma (ASC) is an extremely rare primary hepatic malignant tumor, which is easily misdiagnosed as hepatocellular carcinoma before surgery. It has both the histologic features-adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Primary hepatic ASC incidence rate in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma is 2% to 3%.

Clinical implication of Keap1 and phosphorylated Nrf2 expression in hepatocellular carcinoma.

In this paper, variation tendency of phosphorylated Nrf2, as the activated form of native Nrf2, was studied in 107 primary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) specimens treated by curative hepatectomy. Moreover, the coexpression of oxidative stress markers Keap1 and pNrf2, and their association with pathological features were also evaluated based on those specimens. The results showed that preserved cytoplasmic Keap1 expression of cancer cells was observed in 59 HCCs, while reduced Keap1 expression was determined in remaining 48 ones.
