Background: Based on the neuroinflammation hypothesis in schizophrenia and known anti-inflammatory effects of berberine, the aim of the present study is to investigate the efficacy of berberine in treating negative symptoms and cognitive deficits in adult patients with chronic schizophrenia.

Methods: Enrolled participants were randomized to receive berberine or placebo for 3 months. The Scale for the Assessment of Negative Symptoms (SANS), Trail-making Test A (TMT-A), Trail-making Test B (TMT-B), and Hopkins Verbal Learning Test (HVLT) were used to evaluate the negative symptoms and cognitive function at four-time points (baseline, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd month).

Background: Mild to moderate depressive disorder (DD), which accounts for much larger patient population, has been largely neglected in previous studies exploring the sleep quality of DD patients; in addition, most of these patients had comorbid insomnia. This study evaluated the effects of a Chinese traditional exercise-monkey frolic in Wuqinxi on depression and quality of life in patients with gastrointestinal cancer undergoing chemotherapy and at high risk for depression. In this prospective, randomized-controlled clinical trial, 80 patients with gastrointestinal cancer undergoing chemotherapy and at high risk for depression were randomized to an intervention group or a control group. Participants in the intervention group participated in exercise five sessions each week and also received conventional treatment for 4 weeks; whereas participants in the control group received conventional treatment only.
