Despite the high prevalence of age-dependent intervertebral disc calcification, there is a glaring lack of treatment options for this debilitating pathology. We investigated the efficacy of long-term oral KCitrate supplementation in ameliorating disc calcification in LG/J mice, a model of spontaneous age-associated disc calcification. KCitrate reduced the incidence of disc calcification without affecting the vertebral bone structure, knee calcification, plasma chemistry, or locomotion in LG/J mice.

Quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) is a vital molecular technique for biomarker detection; however, its clinical application is impeded by the scarcity of robust biomarkers and the inherent limitations of the technology. This study conducted a bibliometric analysis of 4063 qPCR-based biomarker studies sourced from the Web of Science (WOS) database, employing VOSviewer and CiteSpace to generate multi-dimensional structural insights into this field. The results reveal a growing trend in research within this domain, with gene expression analysis playing a central role in the identification of potential biomarkers.

Unlabelled: Genome- and epigenome-wide association studies have associated variants and methylation status of carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1a (CPT1a) to reductions in very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) cholesterol and triglyceride levels. We report significant associations between the presence of SNPs and reductions in plasma cholesterol, as well as positive associations between hepatic Cpt1a expression and plasma cholesterol levels across inbred mouse strains. Mechanistic studies show that both wild type and human apolipoprotein B100 (apoB)-transgenic mice with liver-specific deletion of (LKO) display lower circulating apoB levels consistent with reduced LDL-cholesterol (LDL-C) and LDL particle number.

Emerging evidence shows that psychological stress promotes the progression of Parkinson's disease (PD) and the onset of dyskinesia in non-PD individuals, highlighting a potential avenue for therapeutic intervention. We previously reported that chronic restraint-induced psychological stress precipitated the onset of parkinsonism in 10-month-old transgenic mice expressing mutant human α-synuclein (αSyn) (hαSyn A53T). In karst desertification (KD) regions, surface water (SW) easily enters underground through pore fissures and sinkholes despite the presence of abundant precipitation. Such regions have a typical distribution of "soil above and water below", and, thus, the unique "karst drought" occurs. Ecosystem health of the Chishui River Basin (CRB, a crucial ecological barrier in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River) is vital for the ecological security and sustainability of the Yangtze River Basin. We used RUSLE model, SWAT model, Fragstats and geographic detectors to construct a theoretical framework of ecosystem health assessment for CRB, and examined the spatiotemporal variations and driving factors of ecosystem health in CRB under ecological restoration from 2010 to 2020. The results showed that ecosystem service in the CRB decreased and then increased during 2010-2020 and the overall trend was downward.

Exfoliated MXene nanosheets are integrated with cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) to form composite aerogels with high electric conductivity. The combination of CNFs and MXene nanosheets forms a unique "accordion-like" hierarchical architecture with MXene-CNF pillared layers through ice-crystal templating. Benefiting from the special "layer-strut" structure, the MXene/CNF composite aerogels have low density (50 mg/cm), excellent compressibility and recoverability, as well as superior fatigue resistance (up to 1000 cycles).

A better understanding of the mechanical properties of 3-D printing thermoplastics at cryogenic temperatures is essential to material selection, part design, and printing optimization. In recent years, nanocellulose-based bioinorganic nanohybrids have been exploited in numerous applications due to their unique nanostructure, excellent catalytic properties, and good biocompatibility. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the simple and effective synthesis of graphene/cellulose (RGO/CNC) matrix-supported platinum nanoparticles (Pt NPs) for nonenzymatic electrochemical glucose sensing.
