Catechyl lignin (C-lignin) is a naturally occurring linear homogeneous biopolymer composed solely of caffeyl alcohol subunits with cleavable benzodioxane linkages. The inherent structural features of propenylcatechol, a direct depolymerized product of castor seed coats C-lignin, render it a sustainable and promising platform for the synthesis of bioactive molecules. Herein, diversified transformations of propenylcatechol, including C=C bond difunctionalization, β-modification, β,γ-rearrangement, and γ-methyl derivatization, were reported based on known or developed methods.

Objective: To evaluate the association between two single nucleotide polymorphisms located in the promoter of transforming growth factor-β1 receptor 2 (TGFBR2) gene and hypertension in Han Chinese population.

Methods: The subjects were recruited from the population of cluster sampling survey for essential hypertension (EH) in two townships of Yixing city, Jiangsu province in 2009. Overall, 2012 patients with hypertension and 2116 age (± 2 years) and sex-matched unrelated controls were selected.

Background: Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) are produced by non-enzymatic glycation or glycoxidation of proteins, lipids and nucleic acids. The bond of AGEs and the receptor of AGE (AGER) in a pro-oxidant environment could induce immune and inflammation reaction involved in progress of microvascular disease. Accumulated evidence warrant further study on AGE-AGER pathway and genetic susceptibility to hypertension (HT).
