Among the transition metal oxides, hematite (α-FeO) has been widely used in the preparation of memristors because of its excellent physical and chemical properties. In this paper, α-FeO nanowire arrays with a preferred orientation along the [110] direction were prepared by a facile hydrothermal method and annealing treatment on the FTO substrate, and then α-FeO nanowire array-based Au/α-FeO/FTO memristors were obtained by plating the Au electrodes on the as-prepared α-FeO nanowire arrays. The as-prepared α-FeO nanowire array-based Au/α-FeO/FTO memristors have demonstrated stable nonvolatile bipolar resistive switching behaviors with a high resistive switching ratio of about two orders of magnitude, good resistance retention (up to 10 s), and ultralow set voltage (V = +2.

Article Synopsis
  • The article addresses the difficulties in distinguishing between ventricular tachycardia (VT) and pre-excited tachycardia (PXT) when typical indicators are absent, proposing a new theoretical algorithm for better identification of these arrhythmias.
  • The study tested this new algorithm against 205 cases by analyzing cardiac anatomy and electrophysiology, revealing that it outperformed existing algorithms (Steurer and Vereckei) in accuracy, sensitivity, and overall diagnostic value.
  • While the new algorithm showed superior performance in diagnosis, it had slightly lower specificity compared to the Steurer algorithm, with the first step of the new method yielding the best diagnostic outcomes overall.

Article Synopsis
  • Two patients received an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), and Holter analysis revealed regular pacing spikes occurring after heartbeats, indicating system activity.
  • The study utilized dynamic electrocardiogram analysis and literature review to identify these spikes as a feature measuring thoracic impedance rather than a malfunction.
  • The findings suggest that these spikes are a normal function of the ICD designed to monitor heart failure, not an interference signal.

Breastfeeding by mothers with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) has been shown to reduce maternal insulin demands and diminish the risks of diabetes in infants, leading to improved long-term health outcomes. Milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) proteins play a crucial role in influencing the immunity and cognitive development of infants. Understanding the alterations in MFGM proteins in breast milk from mothers with GDM is essential for enhancing their self-efficacy and increase breastfeeding rates.

Recent years have witnessed a surge of interest in tuning the optical properties of organic semiconductors for diverse applications. However, achieving control over the optical bandgap in the second near-infrared (NIR-II) window has remained a major challenge. To address this, here we report a polaron engineering strategy that introduces diverse defects into carbon quantum dots (CQDs).

Article Synopsis
  • * It was found that as temperature decreases, thermal transport shifts from electron-phonon coupling to electron diffusion, with the transition temperature varying based on the microbridge length, aligning well with simulations using a hot-spot model.
  • * The research also revealed that the electron-phonon thermal conductance follows a temperature power law typical for pristine graphene, and the electron diffusion behavior is consistent with the Wiedemann-Franz law without the need for adjusting the Lorentz number.

A miniature mass spectrometer (mMS) based point-of-care testing (POCT) method was evaluated for on-site detecting the hypertension drugs, amlodipine and benazepril. The instrument parameters, including voltage, ISO1, ISO2, and CID, were optimized, under which the target compounds could be well detected in MS. When these two drugs were injected simultaneously, the mutual ionization inhibition and mutual reduction between amlodipine and benazepril were evaluated.

We report a case of ST segment elevation in left precordial leads with a convex shape caused by a rare etiology. By carefully analyzing the electrocardiogram (leads I, II, V3 to V9) of a patient with convex ST segment elevation in the left-sided chest leads, relevant etiological clues were derived. The findings were further supported by cardiac ultrasound and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging, ruling out other common causes.

Nandrolone (NT) is a type of androgen anabolic steroid that is often illegally used in cattle farming, leading to unpredictable harm to human health via the food chain. In this study, a rapid detection method for NT in the samples of cattle farming was established using a portable mass spectrometer. The instrument parameters were optimized, including a thermal desorption temperature of 220 °C, a pump speed of 30 %, an APCI ionization voltage of 3900 v, and an injection volume of 6 μL.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed how the root growth of 1-year-old seedlings responds to different light levels and phosphorus fertilizer doses, assessing characteristics like root morphology and mycorrhizal colonization.
  • Results revealed that root diameter and length decreased with increased shading, while specific root surface area and branching initially increased before declining, indicating adaptive growth strategies in low light.
  • The findings suggested that in phosphorus-limited conditions, roots enhance nutrient absorption through mycorrhizal fungi, with optimal growth observed at a light transmittance of 35% for regeneration in shaded environments.

Paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) is the most widespread and harmful form of shellfish poisoning with high mortality rate. In this study, a combined desorption electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (DESI-MS) and ultra-performance liquid chromatography triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (UPLC-QqQ/MS) method was established for the detection of PSPs in urine. The method was optimized using a spray solution of methanol and water (1:1, v/v) containing 0.

Hypothyroidism has been found to have an effect on the nutritional composition of human milk during pregnancy. This study aims to explore the combined influence of rheological properties, macronutrient content, particle size, and the zeta potential of milk fat globules, as well as the composition of milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) proteins on the quality of human milk in gestational hypothyroidism. The study revealed that human milk from the group with hypothyroidism during pregnancy (AHM) was less viscoelastic and stable when compared with normal pregnancy group human milk (NHM).

A facile sol-gel spin coating method has been proposed for the synthesis of spin-coated ZnO nanofilms on ITO substrates. The as-prepared ZnO-nanofilm-based W/ZnO/ITO memory cell showed forming-free and tunable nonvolatile multilevel resistive switching behaviors with a high resistance ratio of about two orders of magnitude, which can be maintained for over 10 s and without evident deterioration. The tunable nonvolatile multilevel resistive switching phenomena were achieved by modulating the different set voltages of the W/ZnO/ITO memory cell.

  • A novel method is introduced to break down cellulose microfibrils from plant fibers using a combination of impregnation, mild oxidation, and ultrasonication.
  • The resulting cellulose structures, referred to as cellulose ribbons (CR), are tiny (about 1 micron in length) and have a high axial aspect ratio, indicating unique molecular properties.
  • These CR structures are highly hydrophilic and flexible, leading to excellent viscosity in water-based solutions and the ability to form gel-like emulsions, making them ideal for applications like direct ink writing with low solid content.
