Double-reaction-centers (DRCs) Fenton-like chemistry with low or zero oxidant addition has garnered increasing attentions due to their alignment with the principles of green and sustainable development. However, the regulation of such processes remains a significant challenge, primarily due to deficiencies in the microscopic interpretation of their electron migration mechanisms operating with low or zero oxidant addition. In this work, iron single-atom DRCs catalyst (Fe/N-SAC) was prepared for internal-driven system (zero oxidant addition) and external-driven system (low peroxymonosulfate [PMS] addition).

Article Synopsis
  • Conventional Fenton-like systems using various peroxides for water treatment face challenges like low efficiency and secondary contamination, limiting their practical use.
  • Recent strategies focus on improving radical generation and utilization through advanced catalysts and reactor designs, aiming to reduce peroxide consumption while maintaining effectiveness.
  • This review highlights the mechanisms behind these approaches, discusses existing issues, and suggests new research directions for reducing peroxide use in wastewater purification.

Chlortetracycline (CTC) is a tetracycline derivative antibiotic that has been widely used in the livestock industry for prophylactic and therapeutic purposes. Effective measures should be taken to decrease the environmental risks associated with CTC-rich waste. Biochar produced by biomass waste showed great potential for organic contaminants removal by adsorption and catalytic degradation.
