Article Synopsis
  • Glutamine cyclase, linked to posttranslational modifications, is encoded by the QPCT gene, which shows higher expression levels in HBV-infected HepG2.2.15 cells compared to non-infected HepG2 cells.
  • A significant increase in QPCT serum levels was found in HBV-infected patients relative to healthy controls, suggesting its potential role as a biomarker.
  • The study indicates that HBV infection enhances QPCT gene expression, which further promotes HBV replication and expression in various cell lines.

Normobaric hyperoxia (NBO) is a potentially promising stroke treatment strategy that could protect the ischemic penumbra and could be administered as an adjunct before vascular recanalization. However, the efficacy and safety of NBO have not been confirmed by randomized controlled trials. The study aims to assess the efficacy and safety of NBO for ischemic stroke due to large artery occlusion (LVO) of acute anterior circulation among patients who had endovascular treatment (EVT) and were randomized within 6 h from symptom onset.

The Tibetan Plateau (TP) is one of the most challenging areas for human long-term settlement due to its extreme living environment. Understanding the relationship between human activities and environmental changes in this extreme environment is important and can provide a historical reference for adapting to future climate change. In this study, we took the Angren Basin in the southern TP as a case study to elucidate the relationship since Little Ice Age (LIA).

Stroke in China is distinguished by its high rates of morbidity, recurrence, disability, and mortality. The ultra-early administration of rtPA is essential for restoring perfusion in acute ischemic stroke, though it concurrently elevates the risk of hemorrhagic transformation. High-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) emerges as a pivotal player in neuroinflammation after brain ischemia and ischemia-reperfusion.

Our study aimed to construct a predictive model for identifying instances of futile recanalization in patients with anterior circulation occlusion acute ischemic stroke (AIS) who achieved complete reperfusion following endovascular therapy. We included 173 AIS patients who attained complete reperfusion, as indicated by a Modified Thrombolysis in Cerebral Infarction (mTICI) scale score of 3. Our approach involved a thorough analysis of clinical factors, imaging biomarkers, and potential no-reflow biomarkers through both univariate and multivariate analyses to identify predictors of futile recanalization.

Background: Patients with large acute ischemic strokes (AIS) often have a poor prognosis despite successful recanalization due to multiple factors including reperfusion injury. The authors aim to describe our preliminary experience of endovascular cooling in patients with a large AIS after recanalization.

Methods: From January 2021 to July 2022, AIS patients presenting with large infarcts (defined as ASPECTS ≤5 on noncontrast CT or ischemic core ≥50 ml on CT perfusion) who achieved successful recanalization after endovascular treatment were analyzed in a prospective registry.

Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a major cause of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), pegylated-interferon-α(PEG-IFNα) and long-term nucleos(t)ide analogs (NUCs) are mainly drugs used to treat HBV infection, but the effectiveness is unsatisfactory in different populations, the exploration of novel therapeutic approaches is necessary. RAD51C is associated with DNA damage repair and plays an important role in the development and progression of tumors. Early cDNA microarray results showed that RAD51C expression was significantly increased in HBV-infected HCC cells, however, the relationship between HBV infection and abnormal expression of RAD51C has not been reported.
