Article Synopsis
  • Significant differences exist in the expression of the urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) system between cancer tissues and normal tissues, but its effectiveness as a prognostic biomarker for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is still uncertain.
  • A systematic review and meta-analysis of 11 studies involving 937 NSCLC patients showed that increased levels of uPA and PAI-1 did not significantly correlate with poor overall survival (OS), while reduced PAI-2 also had no significant association with OS.
  • In contrast, higher expression of the uPA receptor (uPAR) was significantly linked to poor OS, suggesting that uPAR could serve as a promising clinical biomarker for assessing NSCLC prognosis and guiding targeted treatments.
