Docetaxel is an adjuvant chemotherapy drug widely used to treat multiple solid tumors; however, its toxicity and side effects limit its clinical efficacy. Herein, docetaxel-loaded solid lipid nanoparticles (DSNs) were developed to reduce systemic toxicity of docetaxel while still keeping its anticancer activity. To evaluate its anticancer activity and toxicity, and to understand the molecular mechanisms of DSNs, different cellular, molecular, and whole genome transcription analysis approaches were utilized.

Au25 clusters stabilized by tridecapeptides were firstly synthesized, which can well penetrate the cell membrane and exactly locate in the cytoplasm. Hence the Au clusters significantly suppress the TrxR1 activity in the cytoplasm, and further induce the up-regulation of the activated PARP level which allows the tumor cell apoptosis to occur in a Au dose dependent manner.

Photocatalytic H2 production over TiO2 has attracted tremendous attention and achieved great progress, but the active hydrogen species is still unknown. Employing a rutile TiO2(110) surface as a model catalyst we report here for the first time the direct observation of photocatalytic H2 production under ultrahigh vacuum conditions during UV-light irradiation at 115 K and the identification of negatively-charged hydride-type H-Ti species as the corresponding photoactive surface species by means of thermal desorption spectroscopy, photon-stimulated desorption spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and DFT calculations. The formation and stability of H-Ti species are closely related to available surplus electrons on the rutile TiO2(110) surface that can be created by the formation of surface BBO vacancies or by the formation of surface hydroxyls via the adsorption of atomic H or molecular H2 on O sites.

Major efforts in modern material chemistry are devoted to the design and fabrication of nanostructured systems with tunable physical-chemical properties for advanced catalytic applications. Here, a novel Fe3O4@SiO2@TiO2-Ag nanocomposite has been synthesized and characterized by a series of techniques including SEM, TEM, XRD, XPS as well as magnetization measurement and subsequently tested for the photocatalytic activities. The well-designed nanocomposite exhibits significantly superior activity to that of the commercial Degussa P25 thanks to the suppression of electron-hole pairs from recombination by Ag nanoparticles, and can be easily recycled by applying an external magnetic field while maintaining the catalytic activity without significant decrease even after running 10 times.
