Objects: Taurine exhibits protective effects in the context of cardiovascular pathophysiology. A range of evidence suggests that hypertension activates inflammatory responses and oxidative stress in the paraventricular nucleus (PVN), elevating the arterial tone and sympathetic activity, while it induces gut-brain axis dysfunction in the context of hypertension. However, the mechanism underlying taurine's anti-hypertensive effects via the gut-brain axis remains unclear.

Exploring the response relationship between civil war, population and land cover change is of great practical significance for social stability in Myanmar. However, the ongoing civil war in Myanmar hinders direct understanding of the situation on the ground, which in turn limits detailed study of the intricate relationship between the dynamics of the civil war and its impact on population and land. Therefore, this paper explores the response relationship between civil war conflict and population and land cover change in Myanmar from 2010 to 2020 from the perspective of remote sensing using the land cover data we produced, the open spatial demographics data, and the armed conflict location and event data project.

This study aimed to comprehensively examine the association of gallstones, cholecystectomy, and cancer risk. Multivariable logistic regressions were performed to estimate the observational associations of gallstones and cholecystectomy with cancer risk, using data from a nationwide cohort involving 239 799 participants. General and gender-specific two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was further conducted to assess the causalities of the observed associations.

Purpose: To evaluate the effects of ocular residual astigmatism (ORA) on refractive outcomes for patients with astigmatism after keratorefractive lenticule extraction (KLEx) and to identify the ratio of the ORA/manifest refractive cylinder at the corneal plane (MRC) resulting in a greater index of success (IOS).

Methods: In total, 892 right eyes that underwent KLEx surgery were included. Astigmatic changes were evaluated using Alpins' vector analysis.

Background: Sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (SA-AKI) is common and associated with poor outcomes in critically ill patients. Acetaminophen is often used as an antipyretic and analgesic drug, but the association of acetaminophen use with mortality and recovery of renal function in SA-AKI patients remain unclear. We aimed to investigate the association between acetaminophen use and outcomes in SA-AKI patients.

The effect of an alternating electromagnetic field on the microstructure and properties of the Ti-Al coating on the titanium alloy surface is studied. The Ti-Al coating is prepared on the surface of titanium alloy by using an alternative electromagnetic field assisted by high temperature thermal diffusion. The preparation method is simple and easy to operate.

Glioblastoma ranks among the most prevalent primary intracranial tumors, characterized by high mortality and poor prognosis. Chemotherapy remains a key treatment strategy for gliomas, though most current drugs suffer from limited efficacy and significant toxicity. This study focuses on a cRGD-siEGFR coupling compound synthesized in a previous stage.

Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the clinical significance and prognostic value of the preoperative fibrinogen (FBG) level in patients with native valve infective endocarditis (NVIE) who underwent valve surgery.

Methods: This retrospective study included a total of 163 consecutive patients who were diagnosed with NVIE and underwent valve surgery from January 2019 to January 2022 in our hospital. The primary endpoint was all-cause mortality.

Introduction And Importance: Fallopian tube cancer that is characterized only by inguinal lymph node metastasis without intra-abdominal widespread is rare. Here we report a patient with primary Fallopian tube cancer with bilateral inguinal metastases as the first symptom.

Case Presentation: A 68-year-old patient with primary Fallopian tube cancer, with painless bilateral inguinal enlargement (7 × 6 cm on the right side, 3 × 2 cm on the left side) as the only manifestation, was confirmed by preoperative biopsy as metastatic high-grade serous denocarcinoma, consider the adnexal or peritoneal source.

At present, no consensus has been reached on the generation mechanism of anisotropy in materials fabricated by laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), and most attention has been focused on crystallographic texture. In this paper, an analysis and test were carried out on the hardness, defect distribution, residual stress distribution, and microstructure of WE43 magnesium alloy fabricated by LPBF. The results indicate that LPBF WE43 exhibits obvious anisotropy-the hardness HV of X-Z surface (129.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines how education impacts the prevalence of cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome in middle-aged and older Chinese individuals, highlighting significant gender differences.
  • Using data from a large population-based study, researchers found that low educational attainment increased the likelihood of moderate and high CKM syndrome, particularly among women.
  • Results suggest that poor health behaviors, influenced by education, significantly affect CKM syndrome risks, emphasizing the need for interventions that address social determinants of health.

The effect of hot isostatic pressing (HIP) on the microstructure and properties of hot dip aluminum coating cooled in a magnetic field was investigated in this study. In order to improve the microstructure and properties of magnetic dip aluminum coating, hot isostatic pressing technology was used for post-treatment. Initially, a traditional aluminum-impregnated coating was prepared on the surface of titanium alloy TA15, an alternating electromagnetic field was applied during the forming and solidification process of the coating.

  • Fish oil, rich in omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA, was tested for its impact on triglyceride levels and gut microbiota in patients with type 2 diabetes and high triglycerides through a 12-week study involving 309 participants.
  • The results showed that fish oil significantly reduced triglycerides more than corn oil and altered the serum lipid profile, with specific lipid metabolites mediating the relationship between gut microbiota and triglyceride reduction.
  • The study highlights the importance of individual gut microbiota characteristics in determining how effective fish oil is in lowering triglycerides, emphasizing personalized approaches for diabetes treatment.

  • Scientists studied how things like education, lifestyle, and health can affect death rates in older adults in China.
  • They found that 17 factors were linked to a lot of the deaths, showing that low education and high blood pressure were some of the biggest reasons people died from different causes.
  • The study suggested that understanding these risks can help create better health programs to keep people healthier and reduce deaths in China.

Oil and gas activities are sources of marine microplastics (MPs) but have received less attention globally. This study assessed the distribution characteristics and ecological risks of MPs in 31 sediment samples and effluent samples of 5 oil and gas platforms related to offshore oil and gas activities in the Bohai Sea. The results showed that the mean abundance of MPs in sediment, produced water, and domestic sewage was 205.

  • Emerging studies suggest a link between medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs) in the diet and glucose regulation, but the specific role of serum MCFAs in diabetes risk, especially concerning genetic factors, needs further exploration.
  • A nested case-control study analyzed baseline serum MCFAs from 1,707 individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and matched healthy controls, examining both MCFAs' overall effects and their interactions with genetic risk scores based on T2DM-linked genetic variants.
  • Results indicated that higher levels of octanoic and nonanoic acids were associated with lower diabetes risk, particularly in physically inactive individuals and those with high genetic risk, suggesting a complex interplay between these fatty acids and genetic predisposition in diabetes
