Purpose: This study aimed to identify distinct trends among Chinese residents based on their health-related quality of life (HR-QoL) outcomes and to analyze the demographic characteristics that contribute to these trends.

Materials And Methods: The study conducted latent class analysis using baseline data obtained from a survey of health service utilization behaviors (from July to December 2016) among residents of Hubei Province, China (N = 1517). Latent classes were used to implement the HR-QoL grouping of different trends among the respondents.

To investigate the characteristics of grassland degradation on a regional scale in Xizang, data on grassland degradation from the second grassland survey of Xizang and 12 vegetation and soil indicators from the National Tibetan Plateau Data Center were collected. Using ArcMap, 10 000 random sample points were selected on raster data (excluding non-grassland, desertification, and salinization data, leaving 7 949 valid sample points). The multi-value extraction to-point method was applied to extract degradation and indicator data for each sample point.

Lung cancer ranks among the primary contributors to cancer-related fatalities on a global scale. Multiple research investigations have demonstrated that there exists a dysbiosis within the intestinal bacteria and short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) is linked with immune responses in lung cancer. Qingfei mixture (QFM) has been widely used in treating lung cancer, yet the active ingredients and roles of the QFM on immune responses by targeting gut microbiota remain to be elucidated.

  • Partial splenic embolization (PSE) is being studied as a potential alternative to splenectomy for treating hypersplenism, especially in cirrhosis patients, though some may still need surgery later on.
  • A study involving 321 patients compared those who underwent PSE before splenectomy with those who did not, focusing on postoperative complications and blood loss.
  • Results showed that the non-PSE group had shorter hospital stays and less blood loss during surgery, suggesting that PSE may increase the risk of intraoperative bleeding.*

SREBPs, such as SREBP1 and SREBP2, were the key transcriptional factors regulating lipid metabolism. The processing of SREBPs involved many genes, such as scap, s1p, s2p, cideb. Here, we deciphered the full-length cDNA sequences of scap, srebp1, srebp2, s1p, s2p, cideb and cidec from yellow catfish Pelteobagrus fulvidraco.

Article Synopsis
  • This study explored how proactive personality, psychological safety, and academic self-efficacy relate to critical thinking in Chinese medical students.
  • It involved a large sample of 5,920 students across four universities, using questionnaires to gather data on these variables and employing regression analysis to understand their interconnections.
  • Results indicated that both psychological safety and academic self-efficacy significantly moderated the relationship between proactive personality and critical thinking, suggesting that enhancing these factors could improve critical thinking skills among medical students.

Background: Nurses working in the intensive care unit (ICU) clung tenaciously to their job during the COVID-19 pandemic in spite of enduring stressed psychological and physical effects as a result of providing nursing care for the infected patients, which indicates that they possessed a high degree of professionalism and career calling. The aim of this study was to explain the associations between resilience, thriving at work, and ethical leadership influencing the calling of ICU nurses.

Methods: From December 2020 to January 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, a cross-sectional survey of 15 provinces in China was conducted using an online questionnaire.

  • Camellia sinensis is the source of tea, and its major functional compounds, catechins, have health benefits for conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and cancer.
  • This study analyzed transcriptome data from two tea plant cultivars to identify genes involved in catechins biosynthesis, resulting in the discovery of 47,717 unigenes, including 9429 new ones.
  • The research identified 212 unigenes encoding 13 key enzymes for catechin production and explored related regulatory elements, enhancing knowledge about catechins biosynthesis and providing a basis for future studies.

Background: Accumulation of evidence suggests that the gut microbiome, its specific metabolites, and differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) are related to non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) pathogenesis. We now report the influences of the gut microbiota, metabolites, and DEPs on the mediation of NSCLC's chronic inflammation and immune dysregulation.

Methods: We conducted 16S ribosomal RNA sequencing for the gut microbiome in healthy volunteers and NSCLC patients.

Background: Boosting the individual learning passion of medical students is a novel approach to improve their academic performance. It facilitates the medical education reform, motivating both policymakers and educators to focus on the function of positive psychology in the career development of medical students. Therefore, this study aimed (1) to assess the status of two types of learning passion; (2) to clarify the relationship between self-esteem and two types of learning passion among Chinese medical students; (3) to examine the mediating role of psychological capital (PsyCap) in the relationship between self-esteem and two types of learning passion, respectively; and (4) to identify the moderating role of professional identity in the relationship between PsyCap and two types of learning passion, respectively.

Opiates produce a strong rewarding effect, but abstinence from opiate use emerges with severe negative emotions. Depression is one of the most frequent emotion disorders associated with opiate abstinence, which is thought to be a main cause for relapse. However, neurobiological bases of such an aversive emotion processing are poorly understood.

  • The study investigated the prognosis and clinicopathological features of solitary papillary thyroid carcinoma in the isthmus (PTCI) among 124 patients, assessing different surgical approaches to treatment.
  • Results showed no significant difference in recurrence-free survival across various surgical methods, although total thyroidectomy with bilateral central neck dissection led to higher instances of temporary hypocalcemia.
  • The analysis identified key risk factors for central lymph node metastasis, recommending less-than-total thyroidectomy, particularly for tumors larger than 0.55 cm in patients over 55 without nodular goiter.

The aim of this paper was to observe the effect of gambogenic acid on angiogenesis of lung cancer and its preliminary mechanism. After culturing lung adenocarcinoma A549 cells, the conditioned medium was treated with gambogenic acid and then used to culture human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) to establish the indirect contact cell co-culture system. A two-dimensional culture model of HUVEC was established with matrigel to observe the effect of gambogenic acid on angiogenesis.
