Aesculin, a coumarin compound, is one of the major active ingredients of traditional Chinese herbal medicine Qinpi (Cortex Fraxini), which has been reported to exhibit antioxidative, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties against oxidative stress and cellular apoptosis.
