- The study examined how long-term glucocorticoid (GC) treatment affects the structure of two types of bone in the femoral head of sheep.
- Eighteen female sheep were divided into three groups: one received GC treatment for 7 months, one received the same treatment followed by 3 months without it, and a control group had no treatment.
- Results showed that GC treatment significantly harmed the cancellous bone structure but had little effect on cortical bone; many cancellous bone properties recovered after the treatment stopped, whereas cortical thickness remained unchanged.
