Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers successfully designed primers based on human α-syn and obtained the tree shrew α-syn cDNA via RT-PCR, revealing a nearly identical sequence to human α-syn but with some specific nucleotide variations.
  • * The analysis shows that the tree shrew α-syn protein shares a 97.1% similarity to the human version, with a conserved secondary structure and phosphorylation sites, suggesting that tree shrews may serve as a valuable model for studying α-synuclein-related

The tree shrew, a new experimental animal model, has been used to study a variety of diseases, especially diseases of the nervous system. 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) is the gold standard for toxin-based animal models of Parkinson's disease (PD) because MPTP treatment replicates almost all of the pathological hallmarks of PD. Therefore, in this study, the effects of MPTP on the motor function of the tree shrew were examined.

Objective: To preliminarily evaluate the immunity and safety of the recombinant adenoviruses expressing rotavirus structural proteins VP7 and VP6 in rhesus monkeys to lay a foundation for the development of novel genetic engineering vaccine against rotavirus.

Methods: Baby monkeys were immunized with the recombinant adenoviruses intranasally or orally. Serum IgG against rotavirus was measured with ELISA.
