According to the World Health Organization, more than 12% of the world's population suffers from noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). Oxidative stress-mediated damage to the stria vascularis (SV) is one of the pathogenic mechanisms of NIHL. Recent studies indicate that glycolysis plays a critical role in endothelial cells (ECs)-related diseases.

Herein, we developed a practical approach using stable, cost-effective ammonium salts with an organic base to generate anhydrous ammonia for asymmetric sulfinylation, achieving a broad range of enantioenriched sulfinamides with excellent yields and optical purity. Additionally, these sulfinamide products serve as versatile precursors for S-stereogenic functional molecules with potential in organic synthesis and drug discovery.

Emerging evidence suggests that circular RNAs (circRNAs), a class of non-coding RNAs, play a critical role in the progression of several cancers, including osteosarcoma (OS). In this study, we focused on a specific circRNA, hsa_circ_0002005, derived from the mesoderm-induced early response 1 family member 2 (MIER2) gene. We determined the expression levels of hsa_circ_0002005 in OS samples through the use of real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR).

Background: Existing literature supports the efficacy of PAOO in augmenting alveolar bone volume and facilitating orthodontic tooth movement. However, there is a paucity of literature addressing its application in the treatment of adults with skeletal Class III malocclusion. This retrospective clinical study aimed to compare the clinical efficacy of camouflage orthodontic treatment combined with and without PAOO in adult patients presenting with skeletal Class III malocclusion.

Article Synopsis
  • Rice blast, caused by the fungus Pyricularia oryzae, is a major threat to global rice production, highlighting the need for accurate detection methods.
  • A new assay called recombinase polymerase amplification-lateral flow dipstick (RPA-LFD) was developed, which effectively detects P. oryzae with high specificity and sensitivity, outperforming conventional PCR techniques.
  • This assay can identify P. oryzae in infected rice leaves and even before visible symptoms occur, making it a valuable tool for early diagnosis and management of rice blast in fields.

The collective behavior of bacteria is regulated by quorum sensing (QS). Autoinducer-2 (AI-2) is a common QS signal that regulates the behavior of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Despite the plethora of processes described to be influenced by AI-2 in diverse Gram-negative bacteria, the AI-2-regulated processes in Bacilli are relatively unexplored.

Introduction And Aims: The histological and morphological differences in soft tissue between natural teeth and peri-implant may result in different clinical effectiveness to free gingival graft (FGG). This research aims to investigate the different efficacy of FGG in augmenting keratinized tissue width (KTW) between tooth and implant sites while evaluating its medium-term stability over a 2- to 5-year follow-up.

Methods: In this study, 29 patients underwent FGG to address insufficient clinical scenarios when KTW <2 mm at the buccal aspect, including 37 implant sites and 33 natural teeth sites both in posterior regions were included.

Stereoselective synthesis utilizing small-molecule catalysts, particularly N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC), has facilitated swift access to enantioenriched molecules through diverse activation modes and NHC-bound reactive intermediates. While carbonyl derivatives, imines, and "activated" alkenes have been extensively investigated, the exploration of heteroatom-centered analogues of NHC-bound intermediates has long been neglected, despite the significant potential for novel chemical transformations they offer once recognized. Herein, we disclose a carbene-catalyzed new activation mode by generating unique sulfinyl azolium intermediates from carbene nucleophilic addition to in situ-generated mixed sulfinic anhydride intermediates.

Background: The reconstruction of complex wounds of the hand still has challenges in achieving aesthetic, functional and sensory recovery. We presented our experience of using the polyfoliate and chimeric radial collateral artery perforator flaps (RCAPF) to repair complex hand defects, aiming to explore the feasibility of special-form RCAPFs in hand coverage and enhance the comprehension of their respective indications.

Methods: From June 2014 to March 2021, 26 cases (19 males and 7 females, mean 44.

Skin wound is an emerging health challenge on account of the high-frequency trauma, surgery and chronic refractory ulcer. Further study on the disease biology will help to develop new effective approaches for wound healing. Here, we identified a wound-stress responsive gene, activating transcription factor 3 (ATF3), and then investigated its biological action and mechanism in wound healing.

Article Synopsis
  • Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) is a rapid and unpredictable condition affecting hearing, with potential links to extracellular vesicles (EVs), which are tiny particles involved in disease processes.
  • The study analyzed medical records from patients diagnosed with SSNHL, collecting blood samples before and after treatment, and comparing them to samples from healthy individuals to study the characteristics of EVs and associated proteins.
  • Findings showed that SSNHL patients, especially those with severe cases, had significantly elevated levels of complement C3 in their plasma EVs, highlighting a potential biomarker for understanding and treating the condition.

Background: Polydactyly is a prevalent congenital anomaly with an incidence of 2.14 per 1000 live births in China. GLI family zinc finger 3 (GLI3) is a classical causative gene of polydactyly, and serves as a pivotal transcription factor in the hedgehog signaling pathway, regulating the development of the anterior-posterior axis in limbs.

Gout is an autoinflammatory disease characterized by the deposition of monosodium urate crystals in or around the joints, primarily manifesting as inflammatory arthritis that recurs and resolves spontaneously. Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a versatile cytokine with both anti-inflammatory and pro-inflammatory capabilities, linked to a variety of inflammatory diseases such as gouty arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, vasculitis, and several types of cancer. The rapid production of IL-6 during infections and tissue damage aids in host defense.

Background: The distal aspect of the second molar (d-M2) often exhibits infrabony defects due to the adjacent third molar. Although the defects can be treated by guided tissue regeneration (GTR) after removing the third molar, the optimal timing remains uncertain following third molar removal in clinical decision-making. This study aimed to compare delayed and immediate GTR treatments to assist in clinical decision-making.

CRISPR gene editing, while highly efficient in creating desired mutations, also has the potential to cause off-target mutations. This risk is especially high in clonally propagated plants, where editing reagents may remain in the genome for long periods of time or in perpetuity. We studied a diverse population of and trees that had CRISPR/Cas9-containing transgenes that targeted one or two types of floral development genes, homologs of and .

Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of Chinese herbal medicine combined with Liuzijue exercise on the physiological symptoms and quality of life (QoL) in postoperative patients with early-stage lung cancer.

Methods: One hundred and eighty-three lung cancer patients who underwent video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) were categorize into either a traditional Chinese medicine treatment group (CM) or a control group (non-traditional Chinese medicine treatment, NC), among whom 73 underwent Chinese herbal medicine and Liuzijue therapy, while 110 underwent no comprehensive treatment with traditional Chinese medicine. The propensity score matching (PSM) method with a 1:2 ratio was used to balance the baseline characteristics and evaluate the efficacy of CM in improving postoperative symptoms and QoL.
